My key would not come out in my wifes 05 H2. It was under warranty and the dealership had to replace the entire shifting unit to fix it.

Make them call it in as a courtesy warranty repair. Get the Gm area service advisor involved if it gets ugly. They can get things covered even when out of war. When it was a possible recall or safety concern

I had this happen to me in the middle of nowhere and I could shift to park and my doors would unlock but the key would not fully turn to off. I removed my shifter and the cup holder top and removed the small switch you can see down by the shifter base. The two screws are tricky to get out. there is a small white button on this switch that when released lets the ignition turn fully off and the key comes out. poked it a few times and it popped out and it has worked fine ever since. Hope this helps if your in a place a long way from any where and turn the ignition fully off.

There are several reasons that a key may not come out of an h2. Here are the most popular 3 in order.
1. dead battery.
2. faulty ignition switch, usually accompanied
with ses light, trans not shifting properly
and maybe a few other weird symptoms.
3. a broken wire at the shifter assm. Every time the shifter is moved, it is moving some wires, and after they move back and forth a few thousand times, it can start to weaken those wires.

The same happened to mine a couple times, and then the problem went away. The last time, I had Onstar do a diagnostic and then called the dealer.

Take it to the dealership....it's an easy fix. Ignition sensor or some such....they replaced the entire ignition cylinder and a sensor on mine. Problem solved!

I've been lucky enough to have all three of these happen to me! Actually 2x on the ignition failure. I guess I'm just a lucky guy! ;-)

Still love the truck though...55k+ miles and counting.

I had an old TA do that to me...except you couldn't shut the car off. Thank god it was a manual and I could stall it, then disconnect the battery, or else the thing would have been running the whole night. They ended up replacing the whole key cylinder. cost an ass load cause they had to reprogram the starter or somthing because of the passkey thingamgig. lol
