Default Hypertech programmer problems

I really need some help. I was attempted to adjust the transmission shift firmness my 03 H2 yesterday and the programmer went into some sort of loop saying that it had a problem and was installing the factory settings. This went on several times and just stopped. I unhooked and reconnected the programmer which read that the tune was installed on my VIN and then told me to call Hypertech-which, of course, is only open M-F.

Now the H2 won't crank at all.....I just sold my CLK so I'm driving the wife's minivan to work. Please help!!!!

You did remove the On-Star (Info) fuse under the hood before starting to program, right ?

Did you try to follow the programmers instruction on recovering from a programmer hang up by leaving the key on and disconnecting the programmer, may have taken a couple times to work.

You might have to send the programmer and vehicle computer in to them now according to a couple sentences out of their manual

Do Not Turn The Ignition Key Off
1. Disconnect the programmer from the vehicle.
2. Reconnect the programmer to the vehicle.
3. Press the START button on the programmer.
The programmer will resume communications with the vehicle
where it left off. If the programmer fails to re-establish communications
with the vehicle, repeat the procedure. If the programmer
still fails to resume, disconnect the programmer and turn the
vehicle off. Attempt to start your vehicle. If your vehicle fails to
start, the vehicle computer may have been corrupted, and you
will need to send your vehicle computer and programmer to
Hypertech for repair. If the vehicle starts, you will need to return
your programmer to Hypertech for re-initialization, no harm was
done to the vehicle computer.

Sorry for the possible bad news, Ed

Yes, I tried to unhook reconnect the programmer. I get the message that the programmer has been programmed to my VIN. Then it gives me the same two codes, either 7C or 76 and says to contact hypertech.
I read some old posts last night to try to get some ideas - so I tried unhooking the battery and charging it all morning (the battery is weak) but that didn't help.

First thing is to call hypertech tomorrow. I guess I could take it to the Chevy dealership and have them reflash it also, right? Is there pre-tuned ecm that can be bought...I would imagine that would be just as cheap as letting the dealership screw with it.

Sent my computer to Hypertech....it was dead, according to the code from the programmer (7c or 76). Hypertech set my computer to factory specs for free but wouldnt replace my programmer since I bought it second-hand.

At least it runs now....and I can't tell a difference without the Hypertech program installed.

I would NEVER buy a progarmmer second hand. You never know what some A hole did to it! I would be kickin someone's a$$ for that!!!!!!

If you aren;t scarred from this event, try the Superchips Programmer. I ran the Hypertech on 4 of mine, than switched to the Superchips. It has more options for a more tuneable ride!!! Never had an issue with the Superchips programmer either. Also you can print out the DTC codes to keep with you so you can troublehoot if you're ever out somewhere and you have issues. I paid $350 otd for mine and am very happy with it.

I would replace that battery and make sure ALL acc's, radio, lights are all off when programming as well. This will help with the whoel power issue while progarmming. That may have triggered the initial issue.

Good luck, feel free to Pm me and I can give you a couple different program suggestions on the Superchips setup.

Superchips is a pretty good handheld. I have a Westers tune on the H2 and LOVE it!! I just bought a flashed core and keep the stock pcm to switch out when I take it to the dealership.

From another post.

http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ight=Hypertech

"Sept. 2006, Bought a 30019 for my 2003 off eBay and the ass hat didn't reset it back to stock. Swears up and down he did, then accused me of trying to rip him off by programming my truck and wanting my money back. Even said that the VIN in the programmer wasn't even a truck he had ever owned. Fricking kids.....The guy lives in DRTYFN's neck of the woods and I almost asked DRTY to pay the ass hat a visit but it was my screw up and just went the following route.

Sent it to manufacture (talked to a fella by the name of Kenny), paid a couple hundred dollars (in the end I paid full price, eBay cost and manufacturers cost, figured not a big deal) for a new one with the current software and learned a lesson, don't buy a programmer off eBay. They said they have had the same problem over and over with folks buying them off eBay."

I have since used the programmer many times without a problem. There are different programmers out there and to each his own but buying one second hand can be risky.
