This morning I loaded my briefcase and dry cleaner stuffs into the Jaguar, then I remembered the weather report said it is going to rain today, heavy rain. I moved everything into the Hummer and drove the Hummer today. The point is, I feel safer in the Hummer, especially in bad weather, gust, rain or snow. I can see things on a rain soaked freeway or country roads. If anything unexpected happened on the road, it is "better him than me." No matter how bad the weather is outside, my Hummer is like a castle, warm and comfortable and safe.

Mac,
Castles in Germany, Irland and Europe were all cold and wet. Where did you find this "warm and comfortable" Castle you speak of???

As I read the initial message I though about the lack of hooks for drycleaning too. This has been one of my pet peeves since I first bought my H2--like the people who drive Hummers don't have dry cleaning??? What's up with that?

But, Sir, I do have cloth hooks in my Hummer.
No good, I had 9 identical white shirts for cleaner today. Maybe I should complaint about the hooks are too small?  |

I have no hooks. I am such a loser. Damn. Good thing the wife takes care of the dry cleaning.
As far as safety goes, I do feel safer in the HUMMER most times, but the wife's SAAB 95 is AMAZING in the snow and ice. It has incredible winter and traction control systems.

Just for the record, I took my Hummer offroad twice, but there was so much dust, I got scared.  The mud was even worse. Do you know what happens when you drive down a dirt road? I looked back, MAMA! MIA!!! look at all that dust!!! I just washed this baby. Slowing down does not help, it gets worse. Stopping is totally bad, the cloud of dust just engulfed my big black beautiful Hummer. I tried driving faster and faster to run away from the dust, but that was hopeless, how fast can you go on narrow winding dirt road and crossing streams? I tried to back out of that narrow mud road all the way to the top, I got tree branch scratches which will hunt me forever.
Joking aside. Legend has it there is a lake at the end of that road, I tried twice, never got to see the lake. Always came to one section where the dirt road just drops down, too steep to walk for sure, maybe a person can do it on all 4, likely ok for Hummer, but I chickened out both times. I knew I have no experience to make that judgement. Wise choice.

Hey, Dudes, I was talking about safety, not hooks. I wear suit daily, and I take off the jacket occasionally, almost never use those hooks. No big deal, you are not missing anything.
Alec, thanks for the invitation, but I'll pass. Offroading is a man sport, no fun for people in the back seats. I am a full time Dad, we are always here for our teenager sons, I enjoy being with my family. If we have a few days to spare, we do things together. I travel for business, so time away from my family for fun is a luxury I do not have at this point. But thanks for asking.  |

I am now reliving the teenage years, except no one to tell me what I can or cannot do, and I got money now. The best part is no school for me, boy, I hated schools. The girls started calling my 15 yr old boy every night, asking him out or want to come over, but his main interest is new Ring movie and video games and who knows what he's doing online all the time. The 13 yr old one is into guns, dozens of them, BB, airsoft, electric, air, paintball, no real one, his Dad gets the real ones; constantly have boys coming/going over, sleep over, parties and online all the time. All the parents are faithful servants driving them up and down the mountains. I can buy them toys I didn't have, I can let them do things I couldn't do, I let them drive the Hummer(empty lot), the Hummer is their Hummer(in their friends' eyes.) each one of them is a Hummer Boy, one and only in each school, how cool can it get? I am having a ball! Life is good.
Boys don't get pregnant. |

Hey guys....don't give Mac a hard time, he's just trying to inject a bit of spunk & energy into the forum.
Besides, he's the only one of us who owns a shirt worth hanging up!
One day I will meet Mac, I'd like to even do some offroading. He doesn't have to drive...he can come along and just ride shot-gun. I actually had a much better time riding with Alec then had I driven seperately!
As much as the Macster is querky, he's still OUR querky forum guy. And did you pick up on his calling us "dudes"??? I've noticed a bit of spunk in his writing as of late too....me thinks he's gettin' hip!?

Mac,
I have 2 boys(8mo and 4yrs). We've been talking about trying for a girl lately. You're right though, buying toys I couldn't have, buying anything the wife needs(Rover  ) and being debt free gives me such a warm feeling of security. Having spent almost $10k in XMAS presents this year equalled my annual income 7 years ago! I love giving to friends and family without expecting anything in return. But I always say to myself, be prepared! This might not last! So I invest heavily.
I have yet to experience your teen years, but I hear it's easier with boys.
Because I'm always on this Forum, you wouldn't think I'm on a plane almost 3-4 times a month this year. I hope this will not be the case in a few years  . Thus my statement about being just like you. Yes, life is good. I hope it gets better.

Yes, Steve, I've been picking up some dirty words here and there from you guys, and slowly slipping one or 2 here and there, havn't got the guts or chance to use the real McCoy all time complete dirty F word yet, but give me time, I'm working on it.
Having money you made yourself, no matter how little, is a lot better than asking for money from parents. Money is freedom, and I enjoy being a provider instead of a taker, to be able to buy your wife things she wants is a pleasure and a pride, more pleasant than buying things for myself. Frankly none of us in this family is a big spender, I don't think we spend $1,000 on Xmas gifts, unless I count the black Hummer grill as a Xmas gift. There is really nothing to buy for Xmas gifts, don't need anything, teenagers know exactly what they want and they bought them already. We are obligated to have lots of boxes under the tree, this is really a problem. I didn't see any neat new gadget in the Sunday paper.
Prices are cheap. $80 for 20" TV, $25 for DVD. Regardless of the quality, every family can afford TV and DVD and cars and cellphones and a good life. Sounds simple but that is not the case in most parts of the world.
