So my wife wanted to look at the new H3 last night. She liked it..I would rather drive it over a Nissan or Toyota..then...
We sat in the SUT (which I have wanted since they first were announced) and she said "hey this is really nice compared to (friends '03H2) It had the dark leather interior. She wouldn't let me get the SUT before and I setlled for the Escalade, which is not a bad vehicle.
So my question is...how bad is the gas mileage on the SUT? I drive 60 miles round trip each day and get 14.5MPG in the E-Lade. Is it worse than that?
How is the towing power..same 6.0 but less HP, correct? I tow a 28' boat..but not far.
Since she like dit alot I wanna try and get two Hummers at the same time, especially with the GM discounts. I just need to sell the Caddy.
Can anyone help me sort this out? Opinions on the SUT?

While you're at it, might as well pick up a new Alpha to complete the line-up.

Buddy, the sut will get 9-10 city and 13-14 city if you drive her nice. check you boats weight. because the Hummer is heavy it can rally do 5500 to 6000 without really showing how hard it is working. Buy it with the discount and do it now.

My SUT averages 11.5 - 12 mpg. I drive city/highway about 50-50. It's fun with the side and rear windows down and the sunroof open.

I get an avg of about 12 mpg between city/ hwy. And that's with 37" MT's.
Ditch the Caddy, and buy the SUT and H3.
Fell free to PM me if you have any SUT Q's.

Is it true the '05's get better gas mileage? I heard they recalibrated the ECM for the fuel management? Not sure if this is true or not?
My buddy's '03 SUV gets 8.5MPG.

I am getting 12MPG. I do a little highway, but mostly city style driving. I love the SUT!

Dear RRX,
There are a lot of variables that contribute to the number of MPG you get. I average between 9.2 and 9.4 overall. I get up to 11 and change on open road trips sometimes.
I haven't towed much in the H2, so I can't help there, except to say, try it. Ask the dealer to let you test the acceleration with your boat in tow. If he says no, borrow or rent one. That's really the only way to know for sure if you'll be satisfied.
On the GM employee thing, don't even worry about it. I talked to a dealer today about possibly trading in my '03 for an '05 SUT or SUV. If you take the employee discount, they won't even consider discounting anything else, extra gear, whatever. That's understandable, but here's the rub. Admittedly, I am a fairly decent negotiator. If I compare what the OUT-THE-DOOR price is (including tax, licence, P.O.E., etc) with the employee discount vs. what I negotiated at a time when gas was cheap, my price is about $2K better than what it was back then. So if you can negotiate price well and you compare true costs, you are losing about $2k if you let the "discount" go.
I say get whatever makes you and your wife happy. Life is short. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. None of it really matters. Be happy!
