Underbody protection or rocker rails??

I've been noticing a lot of people adding the rocker rails/sliders but not too much talk about the underbody protection. How many of you have the UB protection?? Is it more important than the sliders? Only for hard core offroading? If you had to choose just one, which one would it be?

I'm not going to be alot of help here, because I'm getting both. My H3 will be going off road as often as possible. In my opinion the rock rails are a must, but the underbody protection is only $400 installed. That sounds like cheap insurance to me.

My advise, do both.

I agree. You really need to have the rocker rails if you are going to do anything off the pavement. When I was deciding to do that, it seemed like a no-brainer to spend a few extra $$$ to get the extra armor underneath as well.

There isn't a whole lot of standard protection under there and you can imagine that coming down hard on a rock could seriously dent not only your undercarriage but your wallet as well. The UC protection is just good insurance.

Ok, so here's my 2 cents on this.

Kira's H3 has both UC protection and rock rails. I can tell you that they are very strong and support the weight of the vehicle. the Uc protection is woorth it! If you are going to off road it will keep you covered for the most part... esp. if you high center in the middle of the vehicle on a rock. you don't want to pivot off of your transfer case or anything else under there.

I have the rock rails on my already and am going to fab up some UC stuff. The OEM UC protection will not work on mine with the lift.

I too plan on getting both on mine in due time. Under carrage protection will probably come first, it is the cheapest and not to mention the stock skid plate for my transfer case is pressed all the way to the transfer case due to some serious wheeling. See pic below

I have both and put them on mysyelf the first month I owned the truck. Allthough the undercarriage is just as important in my opinion it does have something down there. So you are not totaly uncovered unlike the rocker panel protection. I heard or actually read that if you jack this part up on your frame it is very, very expensive to repair.

I say get both but first the rocker panel protection.

Thanks all. Kind of figured they both were about equal in importance. My problem is I have the tubular step bars and not too sure if I want to yank them off for the rocker rails or try to squeeze them both on. The UB protection sounds like a no-brainer.

You can't fit both the tube steps and rock rails without doing some modification. Someone posted some pics a while back of what they rigged up. Do a search.

There are U-steps you can add to the rocker protection.

Thanks for the heads up. I remember that thread and thought they were able to squeeze both on in their original configuration. Didn't realize they had to make modifications. I'll search for the thread.

I'm getting the U-Steps. I was supposed to pick up my H3 this Saturday, but with the snow storm that is being predicted, who knows?

I'll post pics of the steps once I have my 3

You're still going to need to take the step bars off when you go off road because they decrease your breakover clearance. I have the tube steps, but think I'll sale them and replace with rockers and removable steps.

I was the one that did both . It only takes about 5 min. each side to take off. Look at the posting rockbars w/tube steps on 11/20/05

I have both the rock rails and underbody and wouldn't want to do much off roading without them. Like someone else said "cheap insurance".
