I posted this question over on Edmunds H3 forum:

Can anyone explain how GMID pricing is structured relative to actual dealer cost? Its a bit higher than the invoice price, but how much of the GMID discount is absorbed by the dealer vs. GM.

Our dealer accepts GMID, but its proving very difficult to find an H3 equipped they way we want. To buy off-the-lot, we'd have to take one with $1500 or more in unwanted options. All the units equipped with what we want (Adventure pkg, auto, sun roof, roof air bags) also have the Monsoon stereo, XM, and trailer pkg that we don't want. I'd like to know if there's any negotiating room left with GMID pricing that will make it possible to make a deal on an "over-equipped" unit and avoid waiting 8-10 weeks for a factory order.

I lost the link, but it seems like I found a document by doing a Yahoo search that explains the program.

The dealer gets 2% of the invoice price refunded after a GMID sale. Since GMID price (supplier price) is approx 2% over invoice, that seems to indicate they get 4% on a GMID sale. Of course, that doesn't count holdback, finance rebates, and whatever else they get from GM. The price is fixed (and printed on invoice sheet), so no negotiation.

One dealer told me they were making a net profit of $4000-4500 on every H3 sale. With GMID it would have only been about $1500, and they weren't going to do it.

My 2 cents, if you have a dealer with a unit in stock that'll take GMID, go for it. You'll end up doing a lot better than some of us.

Good luck!

I'm with HumbleAg.
A dealer nets more profit on an ordered vehicle, as it is presold and the dealer doesn't have to pay interest/floorplan, while it sits on the lot waiting to be sold. Therefore, I don't see a dealer "giving" you unwanted options to move an in-stock high demand vehicle.

I can't remember what thread it was posted in..but didn't someone say that on 9/7 GM was gonna offer new incentives? I just checked on the website and didn't see anything that has changed.

Also- I think GM has a typo in their current offers list....they have the H3 as an SUT
