Default Distorted sound through speakers

New to the forums, found some great answers to help me fix some issues that I've been having, but I have one that I haven't noticed any other threads on.

A couple of months ago while listening to music at a low volume in my 03 H2, the sound just went to hell. AM, FM, and CDs sounds play but are all constantly distorted through all the speakers at any volume. I checked the radio and amp fuses and they are in good shape. I disconnected the battery but that didn't help out. I'm thinking that I most likely need to replace the head unit or maybe the amplifier but I'm not sure which is causing this issue as I'm not exceptionally inclined with car audio.

If any has any input it would be much appreciated. Also, if it is the head unit, is there any specific replacement unit I should get (glovebox shows UQ7 - Premium Sound System and Y91 - Lux Amp)? Thanks.
