Yea we see the isolated cases here on the forum. Doubt if it's widespread. I just hit the 16K mark this week on my H3, and I continue to drive it hard. No problems yet.

Design flaw my ass. This is the same engine used as an optional engine on the Colorado/Canyon and they can have the same problem; number one valve intake guide wears and causes misfire codes, and the cylinder head/valves/seals have to be replace.
New cylinder heads have hardened valve guides to prevent any type of wear.
Most happen between 10-15K, not over 15K like the guy said on the other forum.
Why this is happening is causing some people to lose sleep at GM. But widespread?
Let's see, a little over 200 cases in H3s a few hundred in C/C and the engine has been on the road since '04.
With well over 100K vehicles on the road with this engine, it doesn't appear to be that widespread.

Well I have enjoyed my H3 and this forum. After my H3's rear end needed to be replaced after only 7 months of ownership and 11K miles, and the most recent engine scare, I have decided to cut my losses with the H3 and have sold it. Thanks to everyone on the forum you are a terrific grop of H3 owners and I am proud to have considered all of you friends, I will miss you all.

What I really can't stand is that people like this who post their problems want to make it an issue for all H3's and ultimately scream "RECALL." I doubt anything will come of this.

Rear end replacement was well noted on this forum, and was a manufacturing defect due to lapping compound left on the gears. A one time problem, and they replaced the entire axle, no rebuild.
Engine scare is not as big as everyone thinks. Too many H3s on this forum with high mileage and no cylinder head problems.
But, if you have to go...go.
Let us all know of a vehicle that is totally flawless and never needs a repair. I would be curious.

Well, I think the new BAT HUMMER as they called it didn't have any mechanical failures. I mean, it was made by GOD!

And by that I mean Morgan Freeman.

Our H3 hasn't had any engine problems at it's into the 10K-15K range. However, I have had roof trim replaced, headlight replaced for leakage, encoder motor malfunction, gas cap problems, and loose winshield wiper surround (the vented/slotted thingy in front of the windshield).

With that said, I am forgiving because this is a first model year vehicle, and they are bound to have issues. Besides, some of those problems are supplier, not assembly.

But there is NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING short of total falling apart that would make me consider getting rid of the H3. I get a bit disappointed every time something happens, but then just go "oh well." But this car is too good to let go.

And H3O. You obviously bought the car for the wrong reasons anyway.
