H3 fuel efficiency and rising gas prices

Anybody care to share their updated gas mileage? Please give your driving mix (city/hwy) and style if you please.

Also, anyone out there waiting to buy, or waiting on your H3 order getting a bit of a lump in your throat right now, what with rising gas prices and the speculation of $3 a gallon possible in the near future? I'm trying not to get cold feet.

It's not a matter of money in terms of affording the H3, no problem there; rather it's a matter of economic responsibility and "feeling good" about my next purchase. I could afford an H2, but I'd still barf every time I fill it up (prolly every three days.) I like the improvement of the H3 vis a vis the H2, but I don't have to drive an SUV, I honestly just want to drive an H3 for the experience, the prestige, the "look" and all that. I may never take it off road, or rarely get to drive it in snow, but it feels good to know that I could. I could get some common sense satisfaction from driving a Passat TDI, but it wouldn't be as fun as the H3. Either one has about the same back seat for hauling around my kids (as a 2nd family vehicle). Are you feeling me?

I am not getting lump in my throat about the mileage or gas prices because it gets better than my current V8 SUV. I love the H2 but decided on the H3 from both a purchase price and fuel cost stand point. Granted, I could afford to own and drive an H2 but for me the money is better spent on the H3 right now. As far as why I am getting one, love the Hummer line for it's looks and capabilities. Not looking to one up my neighbors, just want something different than every other SUV running around

I agree with ya Newbie.
Clyde, while "you don't have to drive a SUV", should you chose to the H3 is the way to go, look at the mileage onthe other SUV's out there.

I also wouldn't be throwing around the "prestige" comment too often. That is what everyone think people buy Hummers for. It is bad enough with the H2 and would hate to see it with the H3. Even if that is the reason you want one, I would rather you didn't say it. Just my 2 cents on it, take it or leave it

To be honest, if you are not taking it off road, I see little need to buy any SUV. Granted they are stylish and functional, but you will be paying a lot of money and burning up a lot of gas to haul around all that extra underbody armor and 32"+ tires.

You'll get a more comfortable and sensible ride with a street ride like a Mercedes or BMW SUV. Buying any Hummer for strictly on-road use is like using a bazooka to kill a mosquito. Perhaps you should rent one for a few days to drive around to see how you feel about it.

I'm basically getting the same gas mileage out of my H3 as with my Volvo XC90. The onlky difference is that the Volvo has to take premium. As for the rising gas prices, I drive my car to the metro and that takes me into work. It's the best of both worlds. I get to drive my cars and not have to fill up so often.

still getting a pathetic 13.9 gpm after 2500 miles. but i didnt buy it to save gas, i bought it cuz i like it and i like driving over curbs and getting dirty

If you are that concerned about MPG with an H3, go buy a Prius so you earn the Economic Responsibilities Award from the local tree hugger's group.
Owning a HUMMER for the prestige experience?

Now, if you want a vehicle "like nothing else," than the H3 may be an option for you. Just take into consideration that your local Tree Huggers may not approve becasue you're not driving an oil burning VW bus.

At a buck a liter here in Canada, fuel consumption is a concern. Just because people can "afford" to put the gas in the vehicle, does not always mean that they want to. I hate bending over for oil companies.

I think everyone is aware that an SUV will burn more fuel, but a lot of us are curious as to how much.

I want to enjoy my new vehicle and have no buyer's remorse when I hit the gas pumps. I expect it will not be fantastic, but I want something reasonable. With the inline five, I would hope it would be decent.

I understand the worries of my fellow Canadian (Diana) however, there is no totally perfect vehicle that I will like and at the same time a million other people will like as well. Two facts, IMO, are that the H3 is alright on fuel consumption but it will never be a hybird car nor will the hybrid be able to crawl over boulders. And secondly, that a Hummer of any sort will never be a rocket zero to sixty. They are what they are....a kick ass vehicle that goes where the driver wants, whenever the driver wants......thats my two cents (calculated at the current exchange rate its more like 1.4 cents)

Thats funny.

Gas mileage is definitely a concern but for me it comes down to the fact that there is not a vehicle I would like driving that gets much, if any, better mileage than the H3. I am also in the oil business so part of me hopes everyone starts driving gas guzzlers. Before anyone tries to blame me, I don't set the prices, I just try to get more out of the ground so we can continue to drive what we want.
