When I bought my H2, it had the "desirable" Spare wheel carrier on the back, but after living with it for a few weeks, I found it a pain in the ass when I wanted to get into the trunk in the rain (it rains a lot in the UK), and it also took something of the Hummers good looks away.
So I decided to take it off.
This wasn't a big deal (only held on by 4 bolts), but it has caused me a few "issues". Can anyone help me with them?
1) Behind the mounts for the wheel mount are 2 big bolts that go straight into the bumper. These bolts don't line up with the holes in the Standard Hummer hooks. Question is, can I remove these bolts or do they actually hold the bumper on?
2) The bolts that go through the hooks and the wheel holder mounts are now too long when I try to bolt just the Hooks back on. Anyone got a part number for the standard length bolts?
Where I refer to the "hooks", I mean these hooks -

TTT - anyone? We don't have Hummer dealers over here, so it's not like I can go and ask anyone else!

Just leave the mounts on the bumper and remove the rest of the hardware if you can. You should be ok. I left the mounts on mine for the Manik rear bumper guard. Easy to put the guard back on if I ever want to. Hopefully you can do the same.

The left side mount (the one with the hitch pin) was OK to leave on, but the RHS one needed to come off, as there is no seperating the wheel mount from it.
Bah! Bit of a nightmare, really.
I'm surprised no one else has taken this off. The thing is a pain in the ass!

I can probably order them on-line (somewhere), but actually knowing what I was asking for was the most important thing.
Thanks for the PN#, Partsguy!
P.s. anyone know anything about the bolts that are still in the bumper?

Dragon,
Just a couple of questions (BTW, I have done the reverse, mine had no carrier & I installed the carrier from the SUT on my SUV).
1. How far off are the holes on the bumper vs the the hinge mount? Most after-market carrier end up using the factory pattern?
2. Couldn't you simply leave the hinge side (passenger side, oops, driver side for across the pond) of the mount on and just lift up & off the swing arm, at least on the SUT model, the arm is simply dropped into the hinge, no clips nor retainer.
In replacing the longer bolts, I think you could probably source them easier now that you know the size without going thru a dealer.

Hey, Sclui56,
1. There are 3 "holes" in the bumper - two which are the anchor points for the standard hummer "hooks" (I dunno what they really call 'em), and one which is kinda in the middle of the two with a bolt which is screwed right into the bumper. The middle one (which is right in even after I've removed the mount) is not quite perfectly centre, meaning that the holes in the standard Hummer hooks don't match up with the bolt. I wanted to know what these "other" bolts were for - if they're not attached to anything that is gonna fall off, I'd just take 'em out.
2. I could have left the Spare wheel mount brackets on there, but I'm more or less certain the carrier won't be going back on the car whilst I own it. I like the uncluttered look of the H2, so I didn't want the hinges left on, hence the reason for all this.
Oh, and all Hummers worldwide are Left Hand Drive. Even in the UK. In my humble opinion, it'd be wrong to have an american built car that was right hand drive - when I owned Corvettes, I hated it when they talked about producing a RHD version...

Couldn't really tell from the pix if it's the SMA unit, no idea what the offset middle bolt does, could you check the underside to see if it attaches to the frame like the 2 original bolts?
Here's the installation instruction for the SMA unit and there's no mention of the offset hole, unless that extra bolt is to keep the hinge bracket (wedged from behind) from moving too much and causing misalignment of the swing arm? Pure speculation here. May be part of the STep #7?
