My apologies if this is a repeat.

I did the GM 24-hour test drive and the H2 is very impressive. Couldn't off road, but I took my g-friend out to dinner and drove around town.
Taking it back took alot of self control!
Only a few things I had a hard time with....
1. Couldn't fit in underground parking.
2. Gas mileage (Really?)
3. Getting the smile off my face.

I do plan on getting one in the spring, just the base model with sunroof. I figure anything else I can add later.

I plan on using it for road trips to Tahoe and 4-wheelin' etc... so I believe I could get full use out of it. Very roomy and decent power for its size. I just can't believe I used a 1/2 tank of gas to go 97.3 miles!

Racerx21:

Glad you liked the H2. As far as gas mileage; it's all relative. I've always had big American trucks, so I'm very familiar with the gas mileage of a V8 designed for a day's work and hauling more weight than a car.

I have absolutely no issues with the gas mileage and I knew "roughly" what a 6.0L V8 hauling a massive and non aerodynamic rig would produce.

Parking is even more limited when you have a roof rack! If you live in a city, then this is a realistic consideration. The last time I saw a parking garage was when I had to play tour guide and visit San Fran.

Getting the smile off your face is not easy.I've had my H2 for over 1 year now and I still love it.

The H2 is an excellent Tahoe vehicle - I've had excellent traction throughout the Sierra ascents and descents.

Sounds great! Too bad I couldn't drive it for a day before my purchase in Aug 02, but I got to drive it everyday since then. You'll love every second of it once you buy one.

You must have a heavy foot. The ave MPG is 10.7 for me at 14K miles, on freeway that gets up to 11-12-13. Your 100 miles with 1/2 tank doesn't sound right, maybe that wasn't a true full or 1/2 tank.

Parking garages are no problem, I did backed out of 3 garages and passed some others, or passed 50 small spaces to find that big space, but all in the first month. That type of things you get used to very fast, I don't drive it to some downtown locations or where I think there is a high concentration of leftwing nuts. Not a problem, take a fast look at the height limitation then just keep on driving, most garages are ok.

It's funny, the one question people ask me when they find out I have an H2 is about the gas mileage. I have been paying close attention to my mpg for the last 3 months and I seem to be getting 9 to 11mpg around town (and in stop and go traffic on the freeway...which is often here in LA) and 14 to 16 on the freeway as long as I stick to 70 instead of my usual 80 (duh). I have to remind people that it is a truck, and a 7000lb one at that. I had a V6 Passat wagon for three years and never got better than 19 city/24 hwy (the sticker said it would get 23 city/27 hwy...hmmm).

Parking garages are a problem...I took off the roof racks and stay out of garages less than 7ft -- most seem to be at least 6'8 which may work (my H2 without racks is 6'7ish -- too close for my comfort) but you never know what pipes/sprinklers are hanging down awaiting your arrival. Plus the Sierra club will post pictures of you emerging from the garage with roof damage!

You'll love it off road -- keep it dirty, it just looks better trashed.

It's only 1/4 a tank to go 100 miles, less if it's on the freeway.

Get the adventure package, you'll want the air-suspension...it's far superior offroad and permits better articulation.

If you drive a LOT, this may not be the best rig for you...but know this: any other large sized vehicle capable of doing the 4x4 thing and carry cargo is only going to get about 2-4 mpg better max!

Enjoy & welcome!

oh yeah....and if you are really really lucky...CBS news network will shoot a video of you washing your rig (with your ass in the air) and continue to post it on television for months to come!

It seems that no matter what kind of car I've owned, someone always asks about the gas mileage. You know the ole "well there, what kinda gas mileage that thing git?"
I always have and will reply with "I don't know"
That ends the discussion and leaves no room for jabs.

The needle on my H2 fuel gauge hasn't moved in over a week, but this is because I'm on vacation and it's sitting in my driveway.

Do you know whether they checked your credit before you took the H2 for the 24 hour test drive??

Thanks,

Raj

F... mpg 11 is fine with me. I was only getting 14mpg in my Z06 which took super. But I did drive that cr a lot less. My wife keeps taking my H2 everywhere.

Raj,
No they didn't check anything other than my licence validity.
GM sent me the offer and that was all I needed.
I didn't have to pay for gas or anything. Didn't cost me one cent which I thought was pretty cool.
Like I said, the hardest part was taking it back :-)
I suppose I was a lead foot in the thing as I knew the gas was free, so that should explain the bad mileage...
Frank

Alex, if I am the dealer, I don't care if the shopper is wearing any cloth or not, I WILL GET the credit checked. Do you know how many crazy people are out there? Anyone has a driver's license. Also each one who wants to test drive is a potential customer I want to grab on and call and call and call. No way I'll just give them the key. Don't feel bad.

Buying a dealer demo was fine, but now to buy a demo car is pretty risky. When people who drive off on their own for 24 hours, they have no reason to love and protect the vehicles.

Racer, you stepped on it pretty hard to get approx. 6MPG. Drag raced the Hummer?
