I'm thinking about getting a full 3rd row seat and do not want the tire carrier in the back. Just wondering how many of you do not carry your spare with you at all times.

I do not carry mine. If I get a flat I will just call OnStar.

I was thinking about taking mine out also.I think I am going to keep a small tire plugging kit and a cheap 12volt aircompresser under the back seat for emergencies.I don't like the look of the outside tire carrier so that is not an option for me.

I renewed Onstar when my year was up. $199. I figured it was worth it for one more year, but $199 per year isn't cheap.

I do not carry the spare. I have 2 cans of that fix-a-flat goop, and on-board compressor, compliments of the adventure package and I have on-star (yes I kept it after the free year)...my company pays for it, I have AAA and a cell phone....Have I covered all the bases. OH BTW, when I go to an offroad event, I take out the rear seat out, secure the tire down in the back and go.

Ditto for me: No spare unless offroad, 12V Truck Air compressor, repair kit. I've also got AAA Plus and OnStar. My past experience is with slow leaking flats, so I'd probably just reinflate and drive straight to the local tire shop around the corner for a fix.

I don't have the spare in my Hummer for over a year, I no longer have OnStar and I don't like the tire on the back look. I have the $10 Wal-Mart tire repair kit, which I will read and learn when I need to, plus the air pump. If I am not with the Hummer when there is a flat, my wife can't handle that 100 Ibs tire anyway. Just call AAA or whomever, or at the worst just pay someone to do it.

I dont carry my spare either. I go riding quads all summer long. My buddies and I go out into some of the most difficult areas. I havent had a problem yet. But like most of the people that have already answered you I too carry fix-a-flat, 12V air comp., tire patch kit, tools and a flash light. Plus if you have a cell you can manage just about anything.

No spare tire for me either. But all 4 of my tires are filled with green slime. This stuff will instantly repair a hole up to a 1/4" diameter. If for some reason this fails I keep a plug kit under my back seat. And I am in the process of shopping for an on board compressor to mount in the engine compartment to air up my tires in emergencies or when I get off the beach fishing. Oh yeh,got onstar for another 10 months and will renew after that.

Are these fix-a-flat and green slime stuff safe? I mean.. once you use it.. it stays in your tire forever right?? does it create tire balance issues??

It will stay in your tire as long as you leave it in there. I have been running it for @ a month and have no balance issuses at all. I was concerned about that before I put it in. The only problems I have eperienced is on sub 30 degree weather the stuff freezes, and the first mile or 2 you can feel it in the tires(slight shimmy) but breaks up quickly and shimmy goes away. I used the chart on the back of the bottle and for the size tire I went with 2.5 bottles per tire.

I opted for SMA rear tire carrier.. It rattles a bit, do not care for the look 100%. WHen I ordered the Gobi rack I did not get the one with the tire mount ( NOt sure if it would have fit in the barn even though I put 8" tall doors on the front) More comfortable with having the tire with me.. But then I havent even read the section of the manual on changing the tire.. When My barn burn't down I think some of the jack parts went with it. I know the wheel chucks ( at least I think that's what they are) are gone..
I will renew onstar, even though I carry a cell phone and police radio.. I'm a bit curious how fast someone would show.. I know here the AAA help can be 1-5 hours before they show up.. Depending in the weather.

Yes, it will cause balance issues. It happened to my wifes Camery. Also with my experience with racing motorcycles it is a good idea to flush the tire once the emergency is over and fix or replace the tire.

I took my rear tire assembly off also. It's a pain to open the rear with it on the back plus i'm not a fan of a tire piggy-backing on the rear of a bad-azz H2. It's a win,win easier to use plus looks better.
