Alright...
My Check Engine Light has come on again!
This is the 3rd time in the last few months that it has come on. According to Onstar, it could be an engine problem or a transmission problem (What else is there!?!?)
I mentioned the gas cap issue, and they said "Oh yeah" that could be it!
They then said just be sure to get it to the dealer within 7-10 days
I've had the gas cap replaced, and the breather tube(?) cleaned out before. Lets see what it is this time!
My service rep was very accomodating about me coming in, and he even tried to troubleshoot over the phone(But, been there/done that!), so he will run a diagnostics check on it while on my lunch break tomorrow to see if they can figure it out.
I'll let y'all know what comes of it.
So, off I go to the dealership again...

Ric,
Any San Antone guys have a programmer. You can use those to read the codes and reset it if it's nothing. You can use anybody's to check the codes, it doesn't have to be associated with the VIN like the programming part does.

I broke down and bought a nice scanner so that I could read codes from most early 80s and newer computer controlled vehicles:

In this day and age a code reader is as important as a wrench in your tool box!

I keep an AutoTap on trips. It makes short work on "limp mode" code resetting.

Klaus What model do you have or what do You recommend for someone who likes to know what is going on but, not likely to do the work or not alot of the work. I always end up doing more than I planned. Do not want to invest allot but. get the job done. I have an EXchip pro around here somewhere that is sweet. It would watch 12 parameters while driving and record 300 hours. I toke it out o fmy Silverado to put on daughters car and somewhere between the computer to read and clear and Her car I got side tracked and stuck it in My pocket. Now I can't find it. Not cheap but, reasonable. Had to hook it to a laptop to read it and download but, then could save for any vehicle from 96 and newer.
Thanks
TAZ
