Default trailer hitch question

I have the spare tire mount on the outside. I have not been down to the boat storage yet to see what kind of clearnce I have between the hitch and tire. Any ideas on many inch drop hitch reciever I need to have good clearance?

Your best bet is to take some measurements based on the height of your trailer's tongue, but the standard answer around here has always been either 6" or 8" of drop (not necessarily to clear the spare tire, but to ensure proper ride-height of the trailer). That's going to depend on the aforementioned trailer tongue, tongue weight, and whether or not you have rear air bags.

There's several threads on the topic, so do some searching.

Here's the one I use. I have air suspension, so I like the flexibility of the adjustable ball mount. It is a 10" drop with 2 ball sizes of 2" and 2 5/16".
