The lady at the shop said that 75-90? was the more common. I dont know gears and oil if my life depended on it.. Any sugestions? I need a good synthetic oil and the purple i heard to be the best.

I guess you will have to put the oil in and slap the cover on real quick .

Seriously though, that sucks .

Phil, I just looked at the service CD and the '03 ballpark capacity is listed at 4 pints, but the '04 and '05 says 2.75 quarts. Maybe there was a change to the chunk or to the cover between '03 and '04 and your cover is more like the '04/'05 one.

DH, you really need a cover that is designed for the the H2. The fill plug is also the check plug, so without it there is no way to see how much oil is in your differential.

I would send it back if it doesn't have a fill hole.
"cause what they sent you was a really expensive helmet!

Phil does trialduty.com have the best price on the black with polished fins? I'm going to change mine out but do not want polished look underneath. I'm calling dealer today as I want them to tell Me what I'm seeing from people that know what they are doing. this to me is very disturbing. I'm headed out right now but late today or Friday i'm pulling the check plug and see what is in there. I do not run mine as hard as you guys or close to it but, it is designed to do what You do and that is all the fluids will take! I'm going to get all synthethic and change everything to Mobile 1. I was going to go with Redline but the ordering and waiting I have decided I do not want to get into that. Same with Royal Purple. I have visited with a few mechanics and they say Mobile 1 is as good as any for the application I'm using it for. Could You give an update on the dino oil and the synthetic that some of You have put back in? ALSO, have any done a temp check as discussed in Phil's thread?
Thanks
TAZ

Uh, I must be wrong in my thinking as far as capacity goes. I was under the impression that if the fill hole is on the side you fill the diff to that point. That way you can't overfill it. The overfill just flows back out. So if that is true and the filler is on the side, just go buy 6 pints and return the left over.

Of course, this could be totally wrong and that would make this a useless post.

Are you sure there is no fill hole on the other side? This is a different GM diff, but they seem to be consistant on some things:

And here is a pic a different one, still:
