Saw on the news GM wants to buy out the Hummer dealers and leave us high and dry .

Re: GM ready to do the unthinkable
If they don't leave "us" high and dry, they'll wind up leaving their stakeholders high and dry. They have a company to run, ya know?

Re: GM ready to do the unthinkable
So I guess getting parts and service will be difficult?
Will Hummer go the way of Avanti, Packard, Willy's and so on?
If they drop Hummer it will be first and Last GM product for me!
Sorry guys I need an off road vehicle with a dealership and parts network.

That's complete and utter BS and you know it. Selling off HUMMER is more of a political tool than a necessary business move.
HUMMER simply wasn't run well at all, mainly in the marketing and decision making departments. GM had many options to freshen up and help the HUMMER brand, like finally putting a diesel in the H2, they decided not to.
Releasing the HX could have saved HUMMER, even if it meant shedding a model, instead they shelve the project.
HUMMER never was the next Chevy, it was a brand that brought people into the GM family. It was an eye catcher, and in my opinion, the ONLY line of vehicles GM has that stand out from the rest.
HUMMER isn't and never was the issue behind GM's problems, at it's strongest it was always a niche brand that brought in a low single digit percentage in revenue, so it couldn't be its biggest problem. What it is however, is a tool to market their new "green" innitiative, which is the biggest crock of sh*t GM has ever tried to pull off.

Re: GM ready to do the unthinkable
The H3 T should sell well especially if they offered a diesel and hybrid in the future.
Look how many double cab Tacoma?s are running around.
The Hx or H4 would sell like crazy if GM ever made it

Re: GM ready to do the unthinkable
The 2009 H2s and H3s are rolling off the assembly line right now, albeit at a slower pace. By law, they have to make parts for 7 years after they discontinue a model. Nothing has been done yet, so I'm just sitting back watching like everyone else.

IIRC, it's 25 years, not 7.

Re: GM ready to do the unthinkable
Somewhere in this thread Avanti was mentioned.
I was fond of their 60's car, but I found this article interesting.

Nope, they technichally only have to continue making safety and emission related equipment for the duration of the factory and emissions warranty. Fortunately, the drivetrain is platform common. Body, interior, and electronics are open game for obsolesence.
