Default Clear coat on after market rims went to crap

Well my 20 inch Diamos went to crap only after 3 years, local shop wants $120 a piece to fix em ( 120x5 = $600 bones) Not too happy about it. Is this a do it yourself job? Is there any type of warranty with them? It is the two tone Diamo's and all the rims are messed up only on the silver parts.

I've never had luck w/ clear coat on rims in michigan because of the salt.

That doesn't sound completely out of line... I think I would get them powder coated for close to the same price and never have to worry about it again.

cut the price on them and see what you can get online selling them and then go out and buy new ones.

i imagine they are about $250 each new or so...

Actually clear coating is something that a novice can do. So, I would take an hour of my time to see if I could repair it myself. Get some 300 to 600 grit sand paper and see if you can wet sand the blemish appearances away. If that works then buy a spray can of clear coat at your local auto parts store and reface the rims. If it doesn't work then you can have them professionally done. If it does work then you can spend some quality time with your truck and save $550.

This happens so often with clear coated rims. More so in salted areas, as someone said before.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing.

FWIW, get some Griott's and use it on your bumpers. Wipe them down with a good leaner 1st, and they will look brand new for a long time!! It won;t come off like armorall or other productrs like that. This actually yes the plastic black again.

As for the wheels, yeah, you will have to sand down the bad parts. The problem will be not hitting the black parts when you do. If it doesn't turn out great you can always have them blasted and PC'd. I think your fix of reconditioning and re-clearing will end up with the same result you have now at some point??? Either way though, it's worth a shot to try and it save some cash if you have time. good luck.
