Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
The crate should only be big enough for him to turn around.

It is. It's just his legs are so long and his body is the size of Pea-Pie's (Chihuahua). He can fold them up really good once he settles in. Maybe switch the crates between the two. Pea-Pie won't pee in a small room let alone a crate (my princess )
BUT THE THING IS! I washed his bed because I smelled some pee pee and when I took it out there was a huge puddle- on the part he lays on all the time!!
He doesn't care. No wonder he stinks alla time. He likes it or something.
We crate them for no longer than 2 hours at a time and let him out a lot- because we are both here all day. It's not like we just leave him in there.
I literally just washed his bed and put a different blanket in there- thinking that a downy fresh blanket that had never been peed on might work- maybe it was smell. I was proud, I just made it so clean and comfy for him. I let him go in there and he immediately peed in front of me. I couldn't believe it, I just sat there on the floor in shock after telling Ken, until I got up to type this and look for what could be the problem.
This dog is a serious pisser- he loves it, lives in it and smells like it.
I am seaching right now.

Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
Are you washing or drying the blanket with something that gives it a perfume smell? "Fresh" scented soap or dryer sheets might be the problem.

Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
Leave him in his crate with the urine, make him sleep with it. Clean it in the morning. He won't want to pee in there much longer if he has to lay in it all night.

Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
If he has to much room in the crate he will be able to pee at one end and sleep at the other. With ours to begin with we cut the kennel in half to give him just enough room to lay down. The only times he does anything in the kennel now is if we have to leave him in there for a long time. Try halfing his space to see if this works. Also just wash any bedding with no scented detergent and do not use any dryer sheets. This will maintain his sleep.

Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
Our dog loves dryer sheets! Downy with Febreeze. She rubs her face in her bedding and falls right to sleep! Our dog is an indoor only dog .. litter box trained ... never set her feet outside. For awhile, even though her litter box is always near her, she would get 'angry' if we left for an hour, or, if we kept her in the living room and not let her have access to other parts of the house. Sooo, she'd wait until we walked into the living room, squat and look at us over her shoulder while she was 'going'. It could be either one .. #1 or #2. The vet told us she was doing it out of anger .. she wanted us with her, or, she wanted the run of the house. She stopped doing it after about 2 weeks when we'd just ignore her bad behavior. I guess when we yelled at her, "bad dog!", she was getting the attention she had wanted. Maybe Stewie is upset that he is being placed in a crate for a couple of hours? Does he do this when he's OUT of the crate? Good luck!

Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
Good stuff everyone. Thanks.
Stewart is a good boy, but has Separation Anxiety. That can be dealt with and it's not that hard since we both are home most of the time. Plus, when we're not here he can see Pea-Pie and they're crated. He actually will get in his crate, without us telling him to, just to hang out.
He's just a pisser....
But he's so good.... All he wants is lovin' and touchin'. If he's out, he's next to, or on you.
Maybe we'll put him in PP's crate tomorrow. It's smaller and he won't be able to stretch, but maybe that'll work.
HMMM3, PP love's drier sheets. She tries to eat them...

Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
My sister has 2 yorkshire terriers. The one is very good, and the other one is dumb and uses the whole house to crap/piss. She's tried everything, but it doesn't work. However, she says the little things can't go more than 30-60 minutes without a trip outside. (Personally, if that's all the longer they can go, they'd be sleeping with the fishes) So I dunno, there may be no hope for you. Our little dogs here (pug and korgie) both pee in their crates and on the floors from time to time. Luckily, we have wood floors, but if our mastiff's bed is laying out, they will sometimes pee on it. So it's washable. Stupid little dogs...

Re: Dog Pees in crate!!!
I was only half kidding with my get-a-separate-crate proposal. Perhaps he associates the crate itself with peeing and not the stuff in it, but if presented with 2 crates would continue to use the current one for peeing and the new one for sleeping. Long shot I'm sure.

You could then put a drain in the one crate and eventually move it to a bathroom and simply teach him to flush, eventually remove the crate and ......voila'

Yeah, but he NEVER does anything bad. He's the best dog as far as being good in the house. But sometimes if he gets sick, and has the runs, then it's a mess.
My best friend has Danes, and they're really good too. Big dogs seem to behave more, I think because they're chickens.

chewing tobacco, bacon, fart on the hook... pretty much anything that stinks works for catfish
As far as the dog peeing in the crate dealy. Go buy a fence charger and some bare wire, gently weave two strands of wire close together back and forth inside the cage and then run it out and hook up to the fence charger. Place a little blanky or something that would act as a insulator when he was in there normally, but when he wets it, it will conduct just a small amount of electro.
It'll curl his hair and tickle his balls
