CB Antenna Noise (Wind)
Finally received my antennas for the final stage of the CB install; however, after the install and a drive around for a day, I have noticed the wind noise is very loud; with or without the springs. I?m using two 3? Firestik (Firefly) antennas with HD stainless springs. It?s a dual-phase system, one mounted at the rear of each roof rail. (SWR is around 1.2, and the setup appears to be a strong one, but the wind noise may drive me to drinking.)
Wondering if a thinner, smoother type (possibly a whip) antenna would create less wind noise? Anyone have any experience with this subject? (My Jeep had a 4? Firestick, mounted to the rear tire carrier, and I never experienced this type of wind noise.)
Communicating with Walcott, they suggest that a Hustler FG27S, which is 1/8" wide 48" tall stainless steel and extends out to little more than 1/4" in the middle where the load coil is located MAY solve the problem. They cannot say for sure. (I might purchase one antenna and drive around and listen.)
Anyone ever have a problem like this, and if so, did you fix it or just learn to live with the noise?

Re: CB Antenna Noise (Wind)
I don't have any suggestions, but is it me or is the passenger side antenna angled outward just a little bit??
Might just be the picture, it's nice setup either way (even with the rabbit ear look )

Re: CB Antenna Noise (Wind)
the air channeling down must be tough? no experience here but I had a H1 customer go off the bumper with big whips he did cb, short wave and outterspace from his rig.

Re: CB Antenna Noise (Wind)
I remember back in the early 90's my cell phone antenna on rear window made noise at speed, and it was the type with a spring at the bottom. Putting shrink tube plastic around the spring section stopped the noise. Don't know if that will help with your application.

Email or PM me your address and I'll send you one. I have a new one in a box that I forgot about when I ordered the two new ones for the H3. Just ran across it last week. Also, might not need either of the two I currently have with the new whip antenna I'm going to try.

Re: CB Antenna Noise (Wind)
Have not experienced the wind noise issue. I have a single antenna mounted dead center at the rear of the truck and have not had any problems. The antenna is a diamond antenna used for 2m/440 ham and stands just over 5' tall and around 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch around. It is mounted with a larsen L Bracket Screwed into the rear of the truck bracket stands about 3 inches above the top of the truck.
