Default What can be done to better the MPG for the H3?

I've had my H3 for ~ a month now and as of now I have spent close to $400 this month on gas. I was wondering what can be done to better the MPG I get from the Hummer.

Try a tune up of the flux capacitor? That might help.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

filling up twice a week... you must do a lot of miles!!!

in my H2 which is getting less MPG than you, I fill up once a week... about $80 and that gets me about 350 miles

Try getting a better job, then you'll be able to afford the f'n gas.

Sorry for the negative attitude everybody, but this is really stupid.

I am so poor, I can't even afford to pay my tuition fees. My last fill up only got me 200 miles. I think I'm gonna go back to stock form, and remove all the doors, spare tire, hood, roof, skid plate .....etc.

$400/month for gas? Just stop driving so much. And get a job closer to home or move closer to your job.

x2. You own a hummer, shuthefukup! I'm moving, my commute is going from 9 miles to 30 miles (1 way). My gas bill will go up by $150-200 per month just for my commute (not to mention, the nearest grocery store will be 20 miles from my new house). Am I bitching? NO, because it's my choice and if I whine about it, I'm just whining about my own choices.

Here's what you should do to improve your gas mileage:
  • Bigger tires. By covering more distance with each revolution, you will go further for each rotation of the engine, thereby using less gas to go the same distance.
  • Use your headlights at all times. Studies show that, by using your headlights instead of your daytime running lights, you will actually lower your fuel consumption (because DRLs use so much energy).
  • Get a roof rack. The actually helps 'streamline' the boxy nature of the H3. A roof rack distills the air above the Hummer, creating a lower pressure above the vehicle (much like an airplane wing). This 'lift' generated by the effect of the roof rack reduces the rolling coefficient of friction of the tires, increasing gas mileage.
  • Use the 'Tornado' intake vortex thingymagger on your exhaust. A little known fact is that the exhaust flows too smoothly out of the engine. This lack of backpressure inhibits the ability of the engine to correctly generate compression. By creating a vortex in the exhaust gases, it increases backpressure, improving your gas mileage.
I hope these ideas help you improve your gas mileage. I'm sure other much more experienced people here can provide other ideas as well.

Last couple tanks have been 14.5 mpg (very good considering I've been too lazy to take my camping gear off the roof rack). Tanks before that were around 15-16 mpg. Not bad if you ask me.

I imagine once I black out the whole vehicle, I'll end up with a couple more mpg. One other gas-saving technique is to black out the whole vehicle. By having full dark colors (instead of chrome), the vehicle absorbs more heat. A hotter-running vehicle actually get better gas mileage because the fuel temperatures are higher, resulting in more combustion, which means more better gas mileage. All those blingers don't realize that studies show chrome causes worst gas mileage

None at all, but I am sure it makes the ride a lot more "pleasurable", especially for the the female H3 owners (in vibrate mode)
