? Iam changing diff covers and I need to get new gear oil of course. I was going to go with Royal Purple Gear Max but i didnt know what weight to go with. The lady at the shop said that 75-90? was the more common. I dont know gears and oil if my life depended on it.. Any sugestions? I need a good synthetic oil and the purple i heard to be the best.

I just got home and crawled under My 05 and the drain is in diff. housing on bottom of course and the check hole is in the AAM stamped cover plate on rear of rear diff. Front has check and drain on drivers side and I could not even touch lube with pinky finger. I will top off in the morning. The rear is down below check quite a bit also will top off. This rig has been supposedly checked twice now and I find no leaks somebody is going to get an ear full Friday. Rear color looked normal but I have not run it hard as most.
Is that the same locations of the previous years? If not do I need to find a different cover plate than Phil's for rear. It appears the rear check is to right of center.
I'm wonderng if there is room for a larger cover as one on there now is all but touching a cross bar running center across the diff. that is between axle and sway bar levels. I wish my repair Cd's would get here. What is that little more like rectangular looking tube bar. It is closed in not angle iron type or I beam shape and assume it must have something to do with air ride?
thanks

Uh, I must be wrong in my thinking as far as capacity goes. I was under the impression that if the fill hole is on the side you fill the diff to that point. That way you can't overfill it. The overfill just flows back out. So if that is true and the filler is on the side, just go buy 6 pints and return the left over.
Of course, this could be totally wrong and that would make this a useless post. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>No, you are right. Phil had asked before if anyone knew offhand about how much so he would know how much to buy. I looked it up and it said 4 pints. He filled it and it took more. Now this thread pops up and I look again only for an '04 model and it said something different. It's just an approximation from GM so you will know about how much but the amount shouldn't change by a pint and a half unless there was something different from one model year to the next.
On DH's he doesn't even have the fill/check hole. So, a novice might try to fill through the breather hole and would obviously over fill.

I guess you will have to put the oil in and slap the cover on real quick .
Seriously though, that sucks .

PARAGON
My panhard bar does not look like the stock in photo at trailduty. Mine is rectangular and tube. It has no openings like on the backside etc. Is this an improved bar over past model bars. It looks strong.

****, right now I couldn't tell you what mine looks like. They might have changed it from the '03 model. If you look for one, it is also called a track bar. I don't think there is a difference between panhard and track bars.

The bar across My diff on 05 is square ro more rectangle. This one is round in this picture. Is this aftermarket od different year model? What is this bar? It almost touchs My cover.
Would a aftermarket cover fit in there?
Phil, Ken, PARAGON???
Thanks

Someone at dealer is not doing the job and My regular contact is out till Monday so I'm going to top off and have sit down with Him then.
Thanks Phil and PARAGON

The best oil to use is Amsoil here is the link for the specs

I have it on mine and it is very good!

Phil, I just looked at the service CD and the '03 ballpark capacity is listed at 4 pints, but the '04 and '05 says 2.75 quarts. Maybe there was a change to the chunk or to the cover between '03 and '04 and your cover is more like the '04/'05 one.
DH, you really need a cover that is designed for the the H2. The fill plug is also the check plug, so without it there is no way to see how much oil is in your differential.

Are you sure there is no fill hole on the other side? This is a different GM diff, but they seem to be consistant on some things:

And here is a pic a different one, still:

Phil does trialduty.com have the best price on the black with polished fins? I'm going to change mine out but do not want polished look underneath. I'm calling dealer today as I want them to tell Me what I'm seeing from people that know what they are doing. this to me is very disturbing. I'm headed out right now but late today or Friday i'm pulling the check plug and see what is in there. I do not run mine as hard as you guys or close to it but, it is designed to do what You do and that is all the fluids will take! I'm going to get all synthethic and change everything to Mobile 1. I was going to go with Redline but the ordering and waiting I have decided I do not want to get into that. Same with Royal Purple. I have visited with a few mechanics and they say Mobile 1 is as good as any for the application I'm using it for. Could You give an update on the dino oil and the synthetic that some of You have put back in? ALSO, have any done a temp check as discussed in Phil's thread?
Thanks
TAZ

I would send it back if it doesn't have a fill hole.
"cause what they sent you was a really expensive helmet!
