Last winter we had some posts about removing ice that builds up in the front lower center of an H2 windshield during snow storms. One idea was heated windshield wipers, which worked, but I'm told the wiping motion and heat/cold cycles resulted in the wires breaking.

I've seen a product called Hotshot that heats windshield washer fluid. Does anyone have any experience with this product? Does it solve the ice build-up at the lower center of the windshield?

Thanks,

George SSSS

NJ: $185 was also the best price I could find.

Lolo: My hunt in the snowy mountains is in October. I'm doing this now so I'm not scrambling to be ready. I still need to get the hotshot, get it installed, play with it a few times, and adjust it [if needed]. I also need to get v-bar chains for all 4 wheels and make sure they fit. I also need to get a multi-mount winch wired at both ends of the vehicle and then practice with the winch, front and back.

I agree with you that I'm starting this rather early, but the weeks slip away pretty quickly for me. I'm pretty sure I'll be up past midnight the night before we leave, working on something I forgot [last year, it was assembling the pieces of a tree stand I never used].

Best regards,

George

NJ H2: Thanks. Re cracking windshields, I read some internet articles that said earlier verions of other products heated the fluid too hot and caused cracking. This product heats it to a lower level and applies it in measured bursts which, I think, is the way they solved that problem.

I'm going to install it in my H2. It will get a good test when we hunt in the Utah mountains in October.

It's made by webasto. I think webasto.com for info. Maybe we can check into a group buy. I'd be willing to purchase one now if we could do that...

I have a heated windshield on my Ford ST that works really well unless the temperature go as low as like 10 degrees below (which is quite seldom where I live). I was just wondering if there were heated after market windshields available?

Someone on this forum has 1 and said it worked great!
The only question I had was if you spray hot water on a cold windsheild could it cause it to crack?

After having driven from L.A. to Moab & back and L.A. to Snowmass & back, I can honestly say that my windshield and I have done more than our part on reducing the insect population in the U.S.

Now I can't swear to this without trying it, but I bet this hot windshield juice will do a much better job of cleaning crusty bug carcasses off my glass than the ambient temperature stuff.

179.95 on ebay with 3.95 shipping. I've seen them for cheaper on ebay, but doesn't seem to have many right now.

W1N: I looked all over for an after market heated windshield, but couldn't find one. However, the hotshot system is the more simple solution, and simple is generally better.

Still, if there was a heated aftermarket windshield available at a reasonable price, I'd definitely give it a look.

Best regards,

George
