Just curious. If Ford or Dodge bought the rights to the Hummer and made the Hummer practically the same as GM did, would you still have bought your H2??

I have always been a Chevy fan. Even though they may have their probs, I've had a vette conv, iroc, 69 camaro, along with various other GM vehicles - each had issues but made me a solid GM fan.

Other than GM, I like Dodge, especially when they brought back the Viper in 1992 (I think). The Durango and Ram trucks are nice too. Ford sucks in my opinion, other than the Mustang (had one of those too - they rock!) and Navigator. But the caddy Escalade kicks on the Navigator and the H2 just wipes out the Escalade.

Anyway, just curous if you would have still bought if GM was not the manufacturer. For example, imagine if Honda or Hyundia bought the Hummer name - I definately would not have bought it (got to stick to North American brands). Just try to same it, Honda Hummer (ha-ha-ha).

I probably would have been MORE likely to buy. The fact that GM made the H2 was the only part of buying the truck that made me skeptical - my previous vehicle was a Chevy C1500 pickup, and I can't count the number of cheap GM parts that broke on that thing.

The funny thing is, I'm finding some of the same attention to detail (or lack thereof) in the H2....why can't they do the same quality control they do for the Escalade? Or do they just think we run our truck so hard that we won't notice/care about the squeaks, rust and misaligned parts?

Not if Ford, Maybe if Dodge. The more intriguing question is what if Jeep bought the rights?

Agree on the Ford vote. The interior of my EB Expy is way better than the H2. Agree on the "lack of HP" from Ford also.

Dodge would have put the Hemi in the H2 by now. Maybe even a SRT version with 425 BHP. Then the trans would have fallen out at 28K miles.

My thoughts though is that the Caddy division should have taken the Hummer project. Decent build quality, plenty of HP and 2nd row seats that recline. Life would be good.

Both Ford and dodge make some fine products, But I just seem to hate Ford. If Dodge made it I probably would buy it.

If Ford had made the H2:
You would have had a choice of:
carpet or no carpet on the floor;
Leather or cloth seats
Big block or small block engine
Gears-373 or 411
A choice of Manual or standard transmission (maybe)
Better headlights
Better paint
Optional spare tire locations (not offered on 05 H2)

Anyway, I really like the H2, obviously, cuz I drive the crap out of it. It's got an awesome ride, and lovely heated seats But they have left a lot of room for improvement.
It truly is "Like Nothing Else." That's why I'm not driving a new Ford....again.

Ford? Absolutely! I love my Fords. Compared to my first GM vehicle (H2), they never have to go to the shop!
That being said, I think GM did a great job with the design. Ford would have screwed that part up, but at least they might have put a few more HP under the hood.

It was kind of a joke. I find GM's effort at drl's a far cry from what they should be. Having just the front lights on and not the rears defeats the purpose of being a "safety" device. I have seen too many people in my area that think having their front lights on during heavy downpour, snow and fog then they are ok. Other than that I love GM.

I want to get a bumper sticker for my next GM vehicle, "piss off the news media, buy american" or "Piss off the news media, buy GM." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10139923/

Maybe.

Dodge probably would have had a diesel in the H2 by now.

If it were a Ford product I sure as Hell wouldn't have done 1/2 the stuff I've done with the GM product.

I would have bought the H2 from either. GM is old, slow, and does not seem to care about quality. Check out their Malibu.

The reason I am glad that GM has it is that their PCMs are open architecture whereas Ford and Dodge make people break their codes. As a result, aftermarket power accessories take longer to develop. GM is doing something right wrt their PCMs.

That would have been some neet irony if DamilerChrysler bought the Hummer name. I do not think the H2 and H3 would have been what they are now. They would have been extremely soft products. Jeep making car based vehicles? WTF? Plus then owners wouldn't have been able to say they bought american if DC was the owner

Ford builds a damn good truck. The F150 is by far the best looking interior in a truck. What Ford lacks is the motor. That 5.4 w/ 3 Valves just doesn't have the poop that a pushrod motor has. Chevy has the best gas motors available.

Dodge has a great diesel motor, but everything it is wrapped in is sub-par to me. their interiors are horrible.

Pros and cons to everything. I like things on the Chevy..I like things on the Ford. No one makes the ultimate truck because everyone has different needs and tastes.

Umm...no.

Ford has drivetrain issues galore in heavy applications. Electrical problems are an everyday headache at Ford dealerships.

Dodge has transmission issues, suspension issues, and worst of all...warranty issues, or should I say "Declined".

Not that GM is perfect, far from it.

Ford/Dodge...probably not. But due to the QC issues already mentioned I'm not sure I'd buy another one from GM either.

Its a love-hate relationship for me. Just when I start to really like it again, something else goes wrong.

I had a GMC Sierra that I bought new and put 100k miles on it. The only time that was in the shop (other than routine maint) was for the tailgate suport cable recall which was a joke anyway. Oh, and I had to replace the DRL bulbs 1 time too. I guess I expected similar or better quality when paying almost double

The F150 in my opinion does have a great new interior but for the rest of the Ford Line up especially the rest of the truck line, it SUCKS. They haven't changed the style in nearly 30 years. The damn dash looks like something my grandfather would have had when he was a kid. As nice as they've made the F150 lets see them update the rest of there line. As for body style, what is up with that drop at the bottom of the window on the doors? Ford = no style in my opinion. Somehow they seam to retain the title of "the best selling trucks"? I don't get it.

To anser the question of this thread, Yes I'd buy the H2 if either Dodge of Ford bought the rights SO LONG AS THEY LEFT IT ALONE, and didn't change anything. except maybe put an Allison transmission into the H2.
