Bill Burke is an experienced off road instructor and guide who frequently works in the Moab area.

http://www.bb4wa.com/letter.htm

I am pleased to say that those from this site who recently visited Moab displayed none of the practices mentioned here.

I have no problem saying I have no idea how to off road, with the exception off getting on a huge 4 wheel drive tractor and just running over everything on the farm. But, I have been around nature enjoying the different hobbies I do that common sense tells Me in My gut what I should do and not do. It is called morality and respect. If You do it and kind of look around to see if anyone saw You then it was probably wrong. I read the mans article and can find nothing to argue with. I have determined that if I can not ride with someone of the caliber of drivers We have on Our forum then I will go to this man and go to His classes. I hope to have a second rig by next spring and a full fledged off road rig. I have mentioned to Phil about passing ideas for the build as He thinks of them and I would appreciate any serious effort by any member to PM with ideas. The paint scheme is being designed now and I want road armor with corners. 6" lift and from there I'm open to advice from A to Z. It will happen Lord willing and the creek does not rise. I would really enjoy the Forum helping with their input. I will began to read about the sport and if anyone has any books etc. for Me to read I would be greatful if You would send Me the titles so I can buy them. But, in the mean time I'm contacting this gentleman this weekend to learn more about His classes. I feel confident that we have enough of Our Buddies who would not do stupid things as mentioned in the article. If not then as a group We need to police Our own when We can.
I thank everyone for any help to educate me.
I want to learn and usually research very well in the process but, need to know what to read and study.
Glad everyone had a great time at Moab. Love all the pics, it looks so great. Things like You would see a painter paint on canvas.

Seth,
A lot of Moab is BLM land and despite the residents best efforts, they are not going to be able to shut down land owned by the government.

Seth...by your logic I never should have tried Golden Spike. Dont get me wrong, I probably shouldnt have...but I stayed on the trail the whole time. Most people in my truck (or a similar truck) would have crapped themselves and made their own trail about 100 yards into it...but I didnt. I just needed a few tugs here and there.

Is it really that difficult to stay on the trail???

Shaggy he is saying that you are a punk.

I agree, my family had a beach house in Carova, NC. ( my father since lost it to wife #2) It is a beach with wild horses and no asphalt. We had to let almost all of the air out of the Mack U-haul tires to get our furniture in that house. Needless to say, miles down the beach. Anyway, it's beautiful. But it is constantly beat up by amatuer SUVists, especially in the last few years. They do the old swerv up and down the dunes. Beer bottles everywhere. I saw one lady in an Explorer a couple of years ago running it through the surf. Saltwater- not smart. Anyway it was heartbreaking to watch. Some nitwits even started shooting and killing the horses. Pisses me off- sorry for the rant.

I am tangentagious. I was just pointing out that one of the main problems is leaving trash and ruining the natural scape.

It looked like Shaggy held his own from the pics anyway, I think the problem is they crapped (period) and started leaving it about 100 yards into it. The article said he buried 5 piles of human effluence- Drty?

Are there any supervisors or rangers out there?

The article is ammusing to me (I like how he takes shots at the bad drivers in built rigs), but the fact that it needed to be written is sad.
