H3 Fuel Can Carrier Mount - install and review
The writeup of the only known non-roof rack method of carrying a fuel can on the H3 can be found here:
http://www.azhog.com/h3_gas_carrier/h3_can_carrier.htm
Let me know if there's any misspellings, editing changes, etc. that need to be made.
Thanks!
Steve

Yes, if you do this:
Have someone locally cut the old plate out, and weld a new plate that matches the 8 bolt pattern for the H2.

Or you can try this it works on the H2 perfectly and it also secures the gas cap making it tamper proof, it might also work on the H3.

Re: H3 Fuel Can Carrier Mount - install and review
I've added some pictures and commentary to the review.
I've added pictures showing the additional amount of space the carrier takes up, how it relates to departure angle, rear hatch opening clearance, a closer view of the lock, and the use of a proper colored can.
I also show a side by side view of my H1's can carrier height and my wife's H3 can carrier height - it's very interesting to see the difference.

Re: H3 Fuel Can Carrier Mount - install and review
Great Job!! I thought about putting one a long time ago but now I'm worrying about the weight load since I got 35" tire back on there. Thanks

35" tires on a stock rim or aftermarket? If it's a 35 on a stock rim, weigh the difference between that and a 33" tire on a stock rim and then add 33 lbs. If the total doesn't exceed a delta of 70-75lbs, you're fine.
The Hummer Regional Manager for Arizona says you can increase the weight max on the tire carrier by 70-75lbs. That can be tire, tire+fuel can, etc...

Who says what? Regional managers = marketing or financial person...not an engineer.

Actually, the regional manager for Arizona is not a marketing guy - he's a techie more than a marketing person.
His background with Hummers dates back to 1992, when he was sent off to learn everything there was to them by a (then) fledgling group wanting to sell this newfangled vehicle that Arnold was touting and driving. He's able to fix 'em, drive 'em, and sell 'em. He knows a ton about the product line, and when he gives me a contact name at either GM or AM General, I get the answer I need when he doesn't have it.
So - I trust what he gives me....

Re: H3 Fuel Can Carrier Mount - install and review
On mine I took some 1.5 aluminum L stock and mounted it under the H3 Stock D rings. Using 2 L's to make a vitual square. Then I mounted a large metal L bar for a future front optional tow ball mount. This same opening is my bolt thru for my military type mounting for 5 or 6 gal metalic gas can. It works well for gas can application...

Pics?
And how does that affect the departure/approach angle?
