6.0 V8 H3
I know that this has been posted before and it may even be the same H3, but this guy was at an Off-Road event I went to last weekend. It was a green H3 with a 6.0 liter V8 in it. He said it was the engine and transmission from an H2. He claimed it was putting out about 425HP!!! He has 35's on it and a 2" body lift. I have to say that it was very well done. It almost looked like it came from the factory that way. From the inside, it looked bone stock. Everything worked including traction control. He didn't change out any other driveline components.
He was running all of the trails that we were running. He also gave me a ride in it on the road. He did several full throttle launches and everything (at least for now) seemed to be holding up really well. It was very impressive. He claimed that he was getting about 16-17MPG!!!
I took some pictures that I will post when I get home tonight.

Well, If it is real and only the engine was changed I sure hope the TOTAL drive train can take the torque that the power plant puts out...

Re: 6.0 V8 H3
If they put a V8 in the Alpha I hope they offer a 5-speed and Adventure Package. When can I place my order
They would have to upgrade the manual trans to handle the tourque of the V8.
Maybe drop in a new Vette engine???

It is the engine AND transmission from the H2. So far it seems to be a testament to how well built and heavy duty the H3 is from the factory. He also mentioned that he might put a supercharger on it too! I would imagine that would put the HP over 500. I'd be interested to see if things start breaking then!!

Re: 6.0 V8 H3
I heard the H3 Alpha was still going to be the I5 with either a turbo or a super charger. With the reason GM went with the I5 in the first place, light weight compared to a V8, short block compared to a I6, I doubt we will ever see a V-8.

It's called "SALVAGE"
Sounds like it was totalled and he rebuilt with a V8, although I question wether it is really the 6 liter. Is there really enough room in there for that motor?

It is. I saw it first hand and rode in it.

Re: 6.0 V8 H3
Wankel Engine
The Wankel radial engine is a fascinating beast that features a very clever rearrangment of the four elements of the Otto cycle. It was developed by Felix Wankel in the 1950s. 1 In the Wankel a triangular rotor incorporating a central ring gear is driven around a fixed pinion within an oblong chamber.
The fuel/air mixture is drawn in the intake port during this phase of the rotation.
 The mixture is compressed here.
The mixture burns here, driving the rotor around.
And the exhaust is expelled here.
The rotory motion is transferred to the drive shaft via an eccentric wheel (illustrated in blue) that rides in a matching bearing in the rotor. The drive shaft rotates once during every power stroke instead of twice as in the Otto cycle.
The Wankel promised higher power output with fewer moving parts than the Otto cycle engine, however technical difficulties have apparently interfered with widespread adoption. In spite of valiant efforts by Mazda, the four stroke engine remains much more popular.
