Black Bling Hood Vents
Has anybody else done this? It was a rainy day project yesterday. Nothing to do so go mess with the H3 day. I thought the air vents should stand out. I think it carried the black theme down to the hood. It actually started when I was thinking of how to tone down the roof light glare. This was the first step. I found some textured paint at Wally World in a rattle can so I gave it a shot. I could not find a commercial grade to air brush on. It dries with a finish that matches our trim. Im not sure how durable it will be after many washes and sunlight, stay tuned. If it does not hold up I might try clear coating it next time.

Re: Black Bling Hood Vents
I cleaned them with 50% xylene and methylene chloride but you could use acetone and some kind of paint prep that says it removes wax. Do this before you sand it. I sanded it with 320 grit to take the shine off and provide for grip. Then I washed them with water to remove dust and dry. Then wipe again with solvent. Since its a textured finish it will hide most imperfections. If you are new to this remember several lighter coats is better in even strokes. The finish will be forgiving on spray strokes. It goes on glossy but dries to a matte textured finish that matches really well. The new deeper black should fade some. It is also at a different angle to the sun in this shot. Hmmm those mirrors.....................eeeww and maybe the grill.............Maybe I will leave the chrome door handles so I can find them.

Re: Black Bling Hood Vents
Looks great. I'm not sure it would look as good with all the colors offered on the H3 like mine, green. White and yellow will look best I think.
