you need to make the switch to att and get the iphone. i did notice my bill jumped up from 89 to about 120 tho because the data plan is required. but you wont find a better phone right now. there are a lot of imitations out there but just get the one they are all trying to copy. the iphone is great for a casual user but when it comes to enterprise work you cant beat the new HTC FUZE from att. it uses windows mobile, like you said their are lots of hacks to really customize it (same goes for iphone) howevewr the screen is smaller and it is not as refined as the iphone. if you go with tmobile, check out the G1. i dont care for it but it is the next hottest phone below the iphone.

ONE MORE FEATURE ABOUT THE IPHONE: If you make the switch to att, and get the iphone and decide you dont like it, SELL IT for 500$$!!!! people will buy it! they want the iphone, and will do whatever it takes to get it, they may be on a carrier they dont want to leave or in a foriegn country. people will pay for that bad boy. that price will cover the cost of the phone @ 199, + your cancelation from ATT @175$ and still leave you some change. I just sold my buddies iphone 3g for 480 nov28th! to a local guy. ilike i said this is the hottest phone out there, there is no denying it. its not for everyone but its the best.

I do agree on the iphone. I like the HTC's. The Diamond model seems to be the best. My daughter just got the LG Glimmer on Alltel and it is nice. It has full screen like iphone and a slide out keyboard which she says she finds no use for keys. She uses her finger for everthing so it must be a good copy.

I stay with Alltel mainly because my kids are on it and we talk for free all of the country. Well also with Alltel based in Arkansas most of my friends are on it so we talk for free. They sort of got a strangle hold for the time being. I think it will go away once Verizon starts stirring the pot. Then I will go to AT&T for sure.

I got to see my first iphone today at the pharmacy and it was quite cool. If I go AT&t THEN I MAY LOOK AT IPHONE.

Thanks for info and anymore suggestions welcome.

Hey Gang,

Verizon has the BLACKBERRY STORM which looks to be very close to iphone.
I know in past Verizon phones have been bought on Ebay and used on Alltel.
The Alltel sales will say know but, I got to visit with a tech one time and he said just get an unlocked phone on CDMA 800/1900 which is same as Alltel and it will work. He said Verizon charges for everything so all features are loced and that the tech said they do have trouble then making it work on Alltel.

Will the newer super phones be more trouble or still just get unlocked ones. I know GSM is way easier to deal with than CDMA.

I would like to use the Storm on Alltel for 2 more years if it will work. Alltel has a great super phone plan right now that Verizon would be bound by till it is up. It would do WAY MORE than I can now for $50 a month less. I'm looking at the HTC PPC 6800 or Moto Q9c but, Moto keys are smaller than 9800 which has a slide out Qwerty board if you do not want to use touchscreen for some reason. I have also found many websites with HTC apps to add to there older phones but, few for 6800's. I may not have come across them yet.

Help on this thought much appreciated,

TAZ

i dont know much about alltel.. they arent out here on the west coast i dont think and if they are they must have a small market share... however just about any phone can be purchased on ebay unlocked. or there are also sites out there that can unlock it for you for a small fee. google "unlock" then follow it by your phones model number and check out some of the links.

this would be good in case you have an upgrade discount thru your provider, then you can go unlock the phone...
