mirror display dead
Hello all. I just had my windshield replaced - out of warranty.
Anyway, get in the truck and the inside rear view mirror heading/temp display is dead. I called the guy that replaced the windshield and he said they just unscrew with a torx - he didn't unplug it or start the truck or anything. Seems a it must be some occurrence of the windshield swap.
Can anyone give me some clues as to what to check or where to start? What the wiring should be or what I can check with a voltmeter? Is there some kind of reset trick? Also - which fuse protects it? I can't figure which one it is from the diagram - I did pop out the 'info' (don't remember the number of the fuse - it's in the lower right of the box) fuse and it is fine.
I figure I can pick up a working mirror cheap enough and replace it, but, I am thinking something is dorked and I should (with the help of you guys on the forum) be able to fix it. Also, I can't imagine the mirror display died so coincidentally and I am afraid if I buy a new mirror, it may be just fine, but, not work as the prob might lay in the wiring, the connector, a fuse, somewhere else.
Thanks.

Re: mirror display dead
unplug it and than plug it back in ,it is most likely a bad connection.

Re: mirror display dead
Thanks IRA. Tried that (a couple of times). Even pushed (and tugged a bit, I guess) the loom to see if any connections were loose going into the connector. No luck.
I think I will try poking a pin lead into the connector to see if it is at least getting juice.
Anyone know which fuse the mirror is on?

Re: mirror display dead
Is there a green light still showing in the bottom corner? If you press the black button it will change readings or turn of the display.

Re: mirror display dead
Thanks Tim. Nope - no green light - no light, at all.
I suppose by the black button you mean the comp or temp buttons? Is there a black button I haven't noticed? Maybe you mean the 'button' to the left of the comp button?
I do see two square holes - one to the left of the comp/temp button and one to the right. The smaller hole on the left looks to be what was a light, maybe, and the hole to the right looks to be a light sensor..
Removed the connector from the back, again, and pushed the loom leads into it (they didn't move, just thought to push on them) - still nothing.
Felt all over the thing (and looked at it) and don't see anything else that might reset it. Is there some strange combo of holding both the comp and temp buttons while starting the truck and pressing the gas three times (like resetting the Oil Engine Life DIC)?

Re: mirror display dead
I can't tell you how to fix it, but I can offer some good advice. If it was working before you had the windshield replaced and not after, call the people who did the work and let them resolve the problem. Quit spending your time on the problem and let them fix it. They broke it, have them fix it!
