Hey all,
I did it..... yesterday I traded the H2 in on an '02 H1 Open Top. (With much trepidation) I'm excited, but a little remorseful at the same time.
I feel more like a traitor, and not a convert. I know I'll miss the H2, but am going to look at this as the opportunity to see what the H1 is all about, and as a learning experience. (which some of you already have)And hopefully provide helpful input.
I really don't like getting into the "one is better than the other" thing, because they are both awsome vehicles, and won't go there. Like the latest print add says "don't just be an owner. Be a collector" I would own both if I could. (maybe some day)
This is one great forum, and plan to stay a part of it.
So with that said.......let the flames begin.....

quote:
just to clarify, you couldn't get a new H1 for anywhere near 10,k more than a new H2.... right? If you know of somewhere that's selling H1's for that, I'd sure like to know!

Frank it can and has been done. You have to be in the right place at the right time. If you're interested you need to go to a dealer who sells H2's. They are required to carry 1 or 2 H1's to maintain their franchise. Some of these places are willing to let one go to get it off their lot. The loss is subsidized with H2 sales. It takes some work so plan on searching for at least 2 months and up to 4 to find the truck you want. I did all the research on the wholesale blue book (NOT retail blue) so I have all of the numbers if you need them as well as some auction numbers.
I know some of the year to year changes but not all of them. Steve knows some. His friend Billy and Dave know a lot.
Good Luck.

Good price. This is pretty much the same deal I found here on the East Coast for my 01 Open Top. Brand New.
No major differences in 01 vs. 02. 03 added the optional Eaton e-lockers (nice for off-roading). 04 of course will have the new interior and a slight HP bump. Plenty of good resources on year to year changes. email me privately if you want some of those links.

Up in Washington there is a Hummer Dealership with several '01 and '02's sitting on the lot.
Two of them are '01's. They are soft-tops that have ZERO miles on them and 2 years left on their warranty. His asking price is about $62,850 each.

LOL,
To clarify, I will probably get a used H1. The H2 would definitly still be my No1. vehicle of choice since I've driven both(H1 not off road).
Anyways, the H1 can carry more C4.
I'm going back and forth to our hotel room here in Disney to log on so it's tough.
It's 4am and jetlag rules.
P.S. Sorry to hear about your M3.

quote:
Why would you take a brand new H2 and trade it in on a smaller cramped spaced feeling, bumpier, noiser, more expensive, jack your payments up higher, have no more use for, ugly looking, not new H1????? I have never been able to figure that one out... Oh well.. I guess I hope you enjoy, just not sure about ya now....

Hmmm, have you ridden in the newer H1's Zero? They're not small at all, in fact the inside is huge (for wagons). The inside is now insulated to remove much of the noise (at freeway speeds it's downright comfy). The diesel engine is an absolute bull on the trail and cruises quite comfortably 75-80mph without hesitation. Uglier is a matter of opinion. The H2 is a better looking vehicle. I use the term "rugged" when describing the H1. Payments could indeed be higher BUT know that the introduction of the H2 has hurt the prices of H1's severely. You can get an H1 for about 10k more than a loaded H2 SO decisions, decisions.
BTW, we went out today with about 6 H1's and 1 H2 at Rattlesnake canyon. I will post pics on another thread.
Congrats on the purchase of the H1. The buyers remorse ends when you get in on the trail. So get it out fast and don't fall in love with your paint because it meant to be scratched off!

there is nothing soft about a softtail, but it looks great and its an excellent beach cruiser.
Like the Ferraris, but they don't fit, a riding buddy of mine has a 93 512TR thats pretty sweet. test drove an 04 M5 last weekend, sweeeet...

Zero- your points are all valid, as for the size, roughness, noise level issues, I asked myself the same question over every bump in the interstate on the drive back home from Dallas yesterday. As for the other issues, it's paid for, yes it's ugly, and used which will make it easier for me to put it through it's paces on the first off road jaunt. I guess it is one of those things one has to figure out for him/her self. Time will tell.
Gasman - my perfect world would include an H2 and H1 - (and 3 or 4 off of Zero's list )
Phil - I'll just be waiting for the "I told you so's from you."

put that ostentatious list of vehicles back, its good to have goals, though I might not have picked all the same vehicles, I wouldn't complain about them either.

DRTY, I just sold the M3. I'm gonna miss that baby, but I never drove the damn thing anyway. One too many tickets is always good motivation to get rid of your extraneous vehicles. I want to keep my M5 as long as I can though.
Dennis, would you be keeping the H2 as well? I would hate to come up and visit you and feel inferior next to such a big truck. On that note, they are allowed to sell H1s to foreigners? How do they know you aren't a terrorist... trapsing off to Japan and all. mata nai...

Ha! Never worry Buckeye. It's just H1 envy .
H1 has always been a dream of mine but was too scared of such a big rig. I was excited when the H2 came out(addicted) and I ended up falling head over heels....But now, I feel more confident now I've roughed it in the H2. A second vehicle is now in the works...H1 Baby!

congrats!!!
I wouldn't want one as my daily driver, which my H2 is for me. My next auto will be rag top H1. Not to replace the H2, but in addition. I hope you enjoy your new ride and also that you will keep in touch with this forum to let us know what you think. SWWWWEEEEEEET ride, bro.

buckeye,
just to clarify, you couldn't get a new H1 for anywhere near 10,k more than a new H2.... right? If you know of somewhere that's selling H1's for that, I'd sure like to know!
That would be almost half off retail! I like the H1 as well and will get one sometime in '04 (I want an open top Hummer). I'm certainly looking at used because you are right, the H2 seems to have put the hurt on H1 sales, particularly used H1s. I need to find out what changes have been made to the H1s - on a year to year basis- to find out which year has the most performance yet can be found for a good used price. Finding a used H1 that has never been offroad would be a sweet find!

Argo's right. Dick Hannah Hummer is very motivated to move their H1s.
I've you're thinking about an H1 call them(503 252-4868), ask for Jeff Jennerjohn. He's the GM and will take great care of you.
