Bummer...just got word that my dealer canceled all Hummer off-road events for this calandar year (they have not yet had an off-road event, since opening June 02) due to insurance liability concerns. Hummmm? I would have thought this hurdle would have been surpassed long ago!

I can imagine this will mean that they will also not build any test track on-site as well. They really don't have any incentative to move ahead on this either as it will only cost them money to put on these events/build the test track.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hummer Happenings are required by GM: 4 a year, 2 in-house (deli-plates) and 2 out-of-house (field events).

The field events must satisfy a minimum of 4-5 out of 9 various offroad obstacles (side-slope, incline, water, etc).

Many dealers are in complete denial about compliance. Resistance in futile.

Insurance typically is required when these events are hosted at various locations...despite the fact that individuals have thier own insurance AND locations have their own insurance.

Insurance is available from many carriers, the dealer is just being overly cheap and making excuses.

Hey Phil/Alec/Steve:

I don't think they really are just trying to avoid these events, (benefit of doubt) they probably do have an insurance problem ($$$)...not unlike my insurance co. calling the H2 unacceptable, therefore doubling it's rate.

I really don't mind if they don't want to put on these off-road events, because I go out enough on my own/with OMAHOG/IHOG. But it would be nice if they helped sponsor my events.

My problem with the whole thing is the fact that they were so far into it's planning before discovering the insurance situation. Duh! They had 2 dates set for Sep 27th and Oct 11th...gone now.

I let 'Huston know they have a problem' (actually GM in Dallas, our area Rep.) They are looking into how they can help, but it is the dealers ultimate responsibility. This dealer won't even let people use their land behind their building for people to test a Hummer because they are afraid of the liability. That's why I'm wondering how they will ever build a test track.

FYI...I'm off this weekend to the Sandhills for some more fun...should be great as it is raining now and that will pack the sand a bit, and reduce the fire potential.

I am hopeful that my dealers event on the 27th will be a good way to grow the local chapter for OkC and maybe they will squeeze another in before years end, possibly November.

Dealer had 2 in house and outdoor was scheduled for July but postponed untill the end of this month.

Hum2,

The offroad event they had scheduled in July was delayed for approval from GM....bigwhig on vacation, so they threw in another indoor event. I would like to find a reliable company to make a couple club banners for me and I will set up a booth at future Happenings for the club.

Already got the okay on the dune run if I could get anyone off their keisters to run with.

Hey RasterMaster:

Exactly what I was hoping with my dealers events, to grow my chapter of IHOG...OMAHOG.

My GM contact/Area Rep is working with my dealer to see if they can find a solution to the problem and still salvage a 4th quarter Happening. A great/timely response from GM I might say!
