Thanks for the input. That's my concern. I'm planning on some traveling and somehow just think I should have spare tire. Don't worry about it running around Vegas. But I also have a couple BIG dogs in the back so no inside spare tire. I'm looking at the one kacyk bought from GStyle. Price is right and looks like a nice clean application. Opps..forgot the pic of one of my "kids"

I have carried mine on the rear tire carrier for 2 years with out incident. Two weeks ago I hit a piece of metal in the road, and distroyed a brand new tire, put a 4 inch slice on the side wall. I was glad I had the spare.

mine is on back w/ a SMA tire carrier...a little annoying when the dig gets in and out, and when loading stuff, but wouldn't let that over shadow the gain in cargo capacity and the look, whihc i actually preffer

I keep the spare in the garage, have for a couple of years now. I carry a big can of fix-a-flat. I've been on several long trips and havn't missed it, luckily. However I'm more than like going to buy a rear tire carrier in the near future as I will be traveling long distances more often.

I took the spare tire out as soon as i got the truck. It was taking up to much space and visibility. I have traveled from maine to florida for the past two years and havent needed it. I'm leaving for vacation again in feb and think i better bring it. I have 60,000 miles on the original tires . Does anyone know of a simple roof carrier out there? I also have the luggage box mounted on the roof which makes it a little more tight for space. Thanks Doug

I do not carry mine unless I am going on a trip. If I take it to the beach, I strap it to the roof.

I carry the spare on my Manik rack on top. It's completely out of the way and I still have it just in case I need it because I off road all the time.

Doug,
I have the SMA carrier and it seems to work OK. I also have a Gobi but my wifey likes the SMA look better.

DTRY...Is that because of offroading, road trips or what? I've been toting mine around for 1-1/2 yrs in town and just put it in the garage this weekend. I'm not into rockcrawling, yet, and I do carry a SUV fix-a-flat. I'm also thinking about getting the rear tire carrier. Your thoughts?

I just like having the spare handy... just in case. It doesn't do me any good in the garage.
Plus, I like the idea of the extra econo catbox hood killer back there too. Who knows, I might get lucky and bounce one of those Honda Element Outhouses off into the weeds with it.

Yes I did it myself. I won't be doing it again until we go to the beach in June. I put it on the roof behind the rear roof rail. You have to move the rail forward a little. I also have a Kanga roof pouch to stuff with all the vacation beach garbage. We stay in North Carolina on the outer banks. You have to drive up the beach 10 miles to get to the house. During high tide it can be rough because you have to drive in the soft sand and there is many ruts. Come to think of it, I do have pics from last year with the tire on top. I'll post them when I get back.

I always carry mine, rear tire carrier. I don't want it taking up room in the garage, plus I like the way it looks on the truck. I can't see squat at the back, but it hasn't bothered me any.

I carry it out back on a factory carrier.
I keep thinking about taking it off, but I know that if I do within a week I'll need it.
Better safe than sorry.
