Hello guys, I finally did it and brought home my H2 today. The GMS deal got the price to the lowest level I've seen so I jumped in and made the committment . . . and I think my wife may be speaking to me by Thanksgiving now. Anyway, I have a couple of questions for you experienced owners.
1. My owners manual makes no mention of an engine break in and the salesman says these new technology in the engines don't require it. Do you guys agree?

2. I need some side steps, round chrome with the black steps is what I have in mind for this solid black SUV. Who is the best source? H2 Source??

3. I think I want a locking gas cap cover to keep the FUH2 crowd outta my tank. Any advice on those?

I've been waiting two years for this and I love my new H2. Now, to get offroad and really enjoy it.

Obviously I didn't buy it for the great gas mileage and I'll be driving it for a while no matter what. My dealer is installing a chip tomorrow that is "supposed" to increase power which could translate to increased mileage if I can continue with the "ginger" driving I'm currently doing with it since it is still in the break in period (if that even exists). My vet swears he drove one with this chip that gave him 14.9 mpg on the open road. We will see if it is as the testimonials claim.
When I finish this message, I am headed home which will be a 60 mile open road trip. I'll reset the AVG ECON and see what it gets on the way home and have something to compare it to after the chip is installed.
Either way, this is GREAT FUN! The sales guy is supposed to introduce me to offroading tomorrow on their demo track. I don't expect a major thrill, just a teaser.

Thank ya sir, that's where it is alright. I was trying to be logical and find that info under Engine Maintenance or Engine Care . . . but I suppose if I was logical, I'ld still be driving a paid off suburban and listening to country music. That's really living large.

David:

Responding to your comments:

Regarding having the locking gas cap keyed to match the door key: It doesn't look possible to my eye. I keep the gas key in the center storage bin attached to a key fob (so it can be easily found) and that works well for me.

Regarding where the engine break-in instructions are located in the manual: I've searched and been unable to find them. I'll take another look.

Regarding whether our H2s are identical: I hope so. My black Adventure Series H2 has been perfect -- -- every fit, every switch, every element -- -- perfect.

DrG, different H2s have different mpgs seemingly unrelated to location, altitude, a/c on/off, etc. I tried driving for a month "gingerly" with a/c 90% off, and my mpg only goes up from 10.4 to 10.8. Others have always average in the 12s (or like Tower, in the 9s). Don't give mpg another thought.

And if you think you're already having "GREAT FUN!" now, you're gonna have aching jaws when offroading, from grinning so much.. Have fun tommorow! </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Just for grins before I had this "chip" deal installed, I ran a little mileage test on the way home from my "branch" office yesterday. This office is 60 miles away and in running between 55 and 65 (as I'm still in the first 500 miles of breakin) I got from 15.7 to 17.0 on the AVG ECON display. I am VERY pleased. I hope it's accurate. I'll repeat all of that in a couple of weeks and see if the chip deal had any effect.
I got to do the demo track today, very cool. Rode it once and drove it twice. Fantastic, this is why I bought a Hummer.
Roads?? We don't need no stinkin roads!

Welcome to the forum. You'll find that a large number of the members are true experts (I am not one of them).

I have the type of locking gas cap Drty posted you to. I got it from the dealer and it works great.

I have a 2005 H2 and it definitely came with an engine break-in instruction. I believe it said that during the first 500 miles (a) you should not exceed 50 miles per hour, (b) no full-throttle acceleration, and (c) don't drive at the same speed for an extended period of time.

Best regards,

George SSSS

When did you get yours? They now use a spring loaded large ball bearing which seems to eliminate rattle, even when closed but not locked. Also, Predator Motorsports seems great about standing behind their products. For that reason, I like the company very much.

I got a chromed spare tire carrier from their first production run. They told me to stay on top of it to prevent rust. It got pretty bad in a couple of spots, but I figured, what with the warning, I was on my own. I called them and they checked the production date. Sight unseen, they said they would send me a new one. Apparently they got a much better chromer. I decided to save them shipping in exchange for them doing the physical swap for me. Great company.

Not a bad country song but "REAL" Texans know that you had to mention your momma, a train, prison and your pickup truck for it to be a "REAL" country song.

"Drove my pickup truck to the train station to see my momma,
She just got out of prison todayyyyyyea."

Thanks to all of you for the welcomes. Wish I could respond individually, but there's not enough time.
I haven't hit my head on the door frame yet, probably because I don't have any side-steps yet so it's a stretch to slide into the seat. However, I seem to have more headroom in the 2005 models than the 2004's I sat in, most of which didn't have the sunroof my has. I know that makes no sense but the neat thing so far about the H2 is that it's a truck my size. I don't have to bend over to get it, very cool.
While I haven't hit my head on the door frame, yesterday, with the truck in the garage, I yanked open the back seat door and hit myself right between the eyes with the edge of the door as the handle is located somewhat forward. It wasn't pretty (pretty stupid actually) but I learned where the edge of the door is.

Can someone give me the inside info on the Hummer Clubs? Is the Hummer Club Inc. mainly H1 owners? Their magazine, Azimuth, seems to indicate that. What's the skinny on Team Hummer? Their website forum seems to be nothing but ads from some clown.

Well I suppose I was a fixin' to do dat. OK, so I can't type. But, for a Deity, you weren't too hard on me.
I was thinking of a chrome or black cover over the gas cap but you have suggested a locking cap instead. Do I understand "his deitiness" correctly??
I had considered the removeable U-steps too. I assume the point of being removeable is for off-roading. Correct?? Are they secure on the vehicle? Personally, I'm 6'5" and I don't need any steps but the wify is going to have to have some assistance. You know, those U-steps don't look near as cool as the chrome ones do and with 8 bolts (I think), they are removeable too. So where do I get the U-Steps? Thanks for the help!
