sorry if this is a dupe....
I am sure this has been talked about before, but I came across this on another forum as I searched for a solution to the awful rattle in the rear of my H2. It seems that the molding between the body and rear bumper makes a ton of noise when it is dirty. If its clean, it's quiet as can be...Several people have gone as far as to trim the rubber to prevent the squeak..I plan to keep a pack of armor all wipes in the back and when it starts to make noise, I can fix it in no time...

I trimmed mine. Did the trick. I have been lucky in the rattle department.

I've had my H2 for 1 week and I hear that squeak in the back. But it sounds like from the inside?? Thanks for the pictures.. at least I know what else to check for.

believe me, NOC, that's what's making that noise. It sounds like it's right there in the back, doesn't it? It's the damn weather strip rubbing on the rear door. It used to make me want to get in the back and kick out my rear door. Now that it's fixed I'm a happy camper again.

That is all that we have to trim on each side? Mine is annoying the crap out of me. Thanks for the info. It makes a sound like rubber is squaeking , is that what you all were hearing?

You mean to tell me those two little ends cause all that noise? I had read in earlier posts about trimming weather stripping, but I wasn't sure what you were talking about. I'll have to do some trimming. Thanks for the pics.

Goto HOME DEPOT and get two 80lb. bags of construstion sand. Place one up against rear hatch - in each corner on the inside. This will cure the squeak!

Yep it makes all that noise. I had the whole hatch apart trying to find it. Someone on this Forum told me the fix.

Had the same problem and it drove me crazy. Brought it back to the dealer and they knew right away what was causing the problem.They fixed it within 5 min's. What they did was,thay put a thin strip of what looks like weather stripping along the bottom edge of the tailgate (inside) where it meets the bumper. They also said that the bumper was alittle out of whack and needed to be adjusted. Have not heard the rattle since then.

GOT DIRT, If you look at the pics of DRTYFN's and see where he cut it off and then you can see where the rest of the trim goes from there. It is along the top of the trim where it was touching the 90 degree bend in the sheet metal that I am talking about. I think the sheet metal was keeping the trim held back and causing it to make constant contact with the lip of the hatch were as I don't think the trim should be touching the sheet metal at all, just a assumption on my part This is only a possible fix, the reason I say this is because it has been raining and snowing here in Ohio and the water may have stopped the noise but, I do remember it making the noise on rainy days before so I am hoping when it clears up the noise is still gone.

Exactly... I just bought mine last week.. wouldn't you think they would fix the damn thing before they sell it. I swear on my test drive I was listening for rattle or squeaks because I had read this forum before I bought. My wife is all freaked out now.. saying how can a 1 week old car squeak. Well.. you know.. she drives X5 and nothing squeaks in that thing.

After reading here about the cause for the noise it was off to the garage I went to look. Could see where the rubber trim was contacting the lower lip of the hatch in the area where DRTYFN pictures show the trimmed piece of rubber trim. At first I was going to cut it off like in the photo but being the analytical (not anal  ) person I am I wanted to know what was causing it. Then I remembered reading somewhere about "bending a piece of sheet metal" and that is when I noticed the bottom of the rear corners were not "stamped" at a perfect 90 degree inward. The rubber trim was being held to the rear of the Hummer by contacting the bad bend which in turn made it contact the bottom lip of the hatch. I put my fingers up underneath the rear corners and bent the "lip" upwards to clear the rubber trim by about .0625 (1/16") and now see that the rubber trim in its relaxed state doesn't touch the lower lip of the hatch. Took it for a test drive and no more noise, went to the in-laws last night for Thanksgiving dinner and no noise there and back. I think what happens is that while driving at highway speeds wind comes in the rear fender wells and "pushes" the rubber trim to the rear making contact with the lower lip of the hatch but because of the bad 90 degree bend in the sheet metal of the rear corners it holds it there causing the noise.
Want to say "thank you" to this site for its help in finding the location of the noise.
Also, Not going to say that this will work for everyone but that it may be a alternative way to stop the noise.

Easy where was the sheet metal you are talking about on the bumper or on the hatch itsself. I have not looked yet but i am going to try your solution first
