I would really like to put the spare up on the roof to clear some major cargo space.

However, I think 14-17 hundred dollars for a rack is a major rip-off.

Anyone have any suggestions on a less expensive/ridiculous option of getting that tire up on the roof?

Thanks for the help.

If you're not doing a lot of off-roading, just leave it in your garage and get a tire repair kit...and AAA membership/onstar I've seen one guy just strap the tire to his roof between the rails when he goes on trips...I have mine mounted on the back...only cost $500 for that..

Get a Yakima basket and attach it there.

Another suggestion: Don't be such a cheap ass! and get a short rack or a used one and mount it safe to the top of the truck. straping to the cross bars will work, but can be dangerous. Imagine that tire coming off at only 35 mph and hitting someone.

the Yakima rack will work but looks like a postage stamp on top of the H2.
good luck.

If your looking for a roof basket try this link to Surco.

http://www.everythingsuv.com/surco_s...racks-esuv.asp

I install one on my rig, and it hooked right up to my cross bars with no problem. I think they look nice.

Can you post a picture? I'd really like to see what that basket looks like on an H2? Thank You.

Oh, and Timgco, you say I "should stop being a cheap ass". Do you even own an H2 right now? It looks like you don't. Shut the hell up. Oh wait, you were kidding?

Trust me, he owns an H2 & you might want to check the photo section to confirm. And that kind of sh*t will get you nowhere here.

Maybe you should unroll that wad of twenties you keep jammed up your ass dw, replace it with a nice set of anal beads or something.

I take it dw stands for dick wiper? Maybe dildo washer? Dumb wigger?

REALX! Take the roll of twenties out of your arss. and look a little deeper into what I said. I offered advise and a warning for a newb. don''t want to see anyone get hurt.

Notice the smirk. don't want to offend you again.

So, I pressed the "*******" button on my computer, and this window popped up. I thought I'd better post something once it happened.

Anway, here's my non-cheap-ass suggestion for a tire carrier...

DW,
The bottom line is this, if you want to mount it on the roof it is going to cost over a thousand dollars. If you insist on going "cheap" then you will have to settle for either;
1)leaving it in the back where it is
2)putting it in your garage
3)buying a rear bumper mount tire carrier
Also, if you are thinking about strapping it to your roof racks, it will most likely wind up killing someone when it comes off and is bouncing down the highway and crashes through someone's windshield.
Did you actually think that any of the accessories for these vehicles were going to be reasonably priced? You may be in over your head.
