Wipers on the RAP circuit is common with all GM vehicles. In all my years, I have never heard anyone complain about this feature...until today.

I'm not sure how GM considers it a good design especially if damage could occur when the vehicle is restarted. Maybe the wipers should electrically default to a “full off” state until the wiper switch is moved after re-start.

Any mechanical device that can automatically move after the operator believes power is off is not a good design. I started the thread for general information purposes. I’m not expecting to get a GM recall notice to have a sticker installed on the wipers stating “may move automatically when power is assumed off”

If the wiper is switched to "on" it would be a stupid design for it to be "off" if the switch was "on" regardless. To suggest that the wiper should stay off after ignition is cut and stay off until the wiper switch is moved again, is.... well... dumb.

NO, dumb is having your wipers destroyed under this condition. I didn’t see anywhere in the owners manual that gave instructions to “park” your wipers anytime you “park” your vehicle while it’s raining.

Since you're such the expert - suggest a corrective solution.

Well, first, there would have to be a problem with the system for a solution to be suggested. My suggestion to solve the problem came in my very first reply to this thread and I believe it was very clear.

Does the owner's manual also tell you that you have to pull on the handle to open the door, to open your eyes while driving, or to turn the steering wheel clockwise to turn right?

Would you like GM to wipe your ass for you too?

Since I live in Florida and don't have to deal with snow and ice, I really don't have a problem with it. I have always just shut my wipers off if I am not getting right back in the vehicle anyway. If you are running in someplace and back out in a minute or two, what is the problem unless it is snowing at the rate of about a couple feet an hour? Since this is such an issue, what did people do for decades when the wipers just stopped where they were as soon as the vehicle was turned off? Was everyone's vehicle getting damage whenever they were using the wipers and shut the vehicle off? I get tired of hearing comments about how poorly this or that was designed because it doesn't meet everyone's idea of the perfect design or operation. When someone finds the vehicle that is perfect for everyone and each and every feature operates exactly how everyone wants it to, let me know because I will dump every investment I have and put every dime into that manufacturer

The thread was started only to provide information that I experienced with the wipers. My wipers were actually stopped in the middle of the windshield and my key was in my hand. I’ll bet if your wipers (Paragon/HummerNewbie)stopped in the middle of your windshield you would just think “that’s normal” – “no problem here”!

Exactly. The only difference is that the wipers are on RAP so they don't turn off until you open the door.

This is one of the dumbest complaints I've heard.

You are correct. It has been that way since they started putting wipers in vehicles so, yes, I would expect that to happen and not have a problem with it. I know from years of driving experience that it will happen so as I said before, unless I am getting back in the vehicle within a couple of minute I shut them off. Not really sure where the issue is, but to each their own.
