Thinking about trading up to an 05. Is it true that they all come with the rear tire carrier and the inside mounted tire is no longer an option?

that is true... Too many complaints about loss of space by the spare, so the 05 model moved the spare to the rear exterior. Not a bad move in my opinion*

There are a few "early" 2005 models (I believe pre-January production) that still have the interior tire mount. So, not ALL '05s have the exterior mount -- don't think that is a given.

I took mine off the back the day after I bought it. Have it sitting in the shed now.

You are correct pre Jan. had inside mounts. Removed mine along time ago. I would have gotten something for a trade the ext. mount in anyway. I rely on road service.

Yes, mounted on the rear bumper. I hate it. Mine is already laying in the shop. I'm having them fix the hole in the bumper where the light wire goes, and giving me regular tow hooks to put back in place of the ones that come with the carrier. I have to get in back too much to have that thing hanging back there, and not to mention, I don't have enough room to swing it open when the trailer is hooked up. So much for giving us an "optional" spare tire spot.

Just curious... What does the inside corner look like now that the spare is mounted on the rear bumper? Same as before with when using the relocation bracket in the add-on kits?

My '03 came with inside spare mounting hardware even though I ordered it on the outside. Still taking up space in the garage and almost impossible to give them away!
