They had a blue luxury package H3 towing a 3000lb travel trailer. Neat to see. They liked it just fine.

I am a towman , its my job . You wont see me towing 3,000 lb trailer behind my H3 for safty reasons .

Towing ability is set on any new vehicle with optimum conditions , in short there over rated .

This combination you speak of is ok for an experienced tower . some one who has knowledge of towing heavy stuff all the time . Other wise its the sort thing that keeps me in bussiness an able to write a check for my H 3

Really Grandman? The trailer was a full half a ton UNDER the rating for the H3. A good Prodigy brake controller, appropriate load leveling hitch with sway helper and it's no problem at all. In large part, the stability of a tow is in the weight and stability of the tow vehicle. The H3 is HEAVY, rigid, and super stout for it's size. This is no unibody with a hitch stuck to the bumper sub assembly here, this is a Hummer H3 with a frame, substantial rear springs.

I think a 3000-3500 lb. travel trailer is WELL within the rating for the H3.

I've done some hairy tows before.

A 10,000lb container/trailer on a hitch, no load leveler. It was horrible. I'd never do that one again.

My boat for miles and miles and miles. It was about 6,500 lbs loaded with fuel. Heavy, and only had a surge brake. The boat and trailer almost outweighed my truck!

My car hauler with various loads behind our truck and Yukon. 7000lbs, again, no special hitch. It towed like a dream, great brake controller.

That H3/travel trailer scenario is safe.

I have to agree about having fun with a squirly trailer. I've been whipped around by 3 ATVs on a 16foot trailer, being towed by my Jeep Unlimited. Gets pretty scary, but feels good when you finally get back in control. The best part is finally getting to your destination, and seeing how much mud actaully gets flung onto the trailer and it's contents! I picked up atleast a couple hundred pounds on Texas topsoil by the end of my trip!

No, it's "the outdoor channel" just like the subject says ( http://www.outdoorchannel.com/ ). OLN is a separate station ( http://www.olntv.com/).

Do you and "Waiting on my Black H3" need reading lessons?

When in doubt, google it.

Your saying a 3,000 Travel trailer . Im not so worried about towing 3,000 lbs with the H 3 as i am the lenght the trailer is . Im guessing 24' or more ?

Thats what worries me on your question . Those have a tendency to sway , some trailers tow much better then others but one that tends to sway and weighs 3,000lb could put you in a situation for a nasty ride .

With my years of experinece id say around 3,500 should be max for a H3 that weighs 4,700 ?

They give you a rating which is all most equal to the weight of your H3 , that is never a good idea . Is the dog wagging the tail , or the tail wagging the dog at that point .

There's a couple of things that contribute to a sway problem. Incorrect tongue weight is the major one. A great, well set up, load leveling hitch with a sway preventer and the trailer being loaded properly with good properly set up trailer brakes makes for a nice safe tow. The H3 has a few points that make it a great tow vehicle. It' wide stance for it's size, it's low center of gravity, great four wheel disc brakes, not having much vehicle length behind the wheels, solid frame and chassis all help.

This is a good discussion! I've seen some bad wrecks from trailers set up wrong, so I can definitely see your concerns.

Perhpas as huck points out really its the person not the truck that cuases most trailer crashs .

Knowledge on the subject is your best prevention . Take time to learn how to properly tow somthing before you head out . If you have little experience in pulling trailers seek info first . A travel trailer should all ready be built to carry the correct tongue weight but loading a tralier such as a car hauler its up to you to get it right .
