The navagation can only be used with the DVD inside the unit. If you put a audio cd in the player the Nav does not function. From what I have experenced. The positive is the Clean look to the Factory unit. The Nav is really detailed better than the one in my 740 BMW. One feature is the split screen, half can be zoomed in and the other zoomed out. It has 3D capility which is an angled view more like driving down down a route as apposed to a overhead view. It has both. The DVD is updated and had an address in a pretty new neighborhood today when i used it to find my way aroung the concrete jungle and twisted freeways called Los Angeles California. Half of the screen was the map and the other half is the route directions. It shows the off ramp and next turn. Or the highway or street name. The girl's voice is pleasent. When you play the radio you get a pretty cool LCD screen with the Station information song and artest.

A couple things i don't like. Can't play a CD with the Nav on, Doesn't have a CD changer and no XM. If they would have had an option for CD changer intergrated into the system i would have given it a 10 but i must give it 7+.

My plan is to put an aftermarket DVD XM radio into the onstar hole. All bose speakers will be used in the new system. wire a couple hidded speakers under the dash so i can still hear the Nav and onstar. I think this will still look better than a single unit such as a Alpine DVD Nav up in the old radio hole.

I haven't really looked it up but i think a aftermarket DVD NAV XM unit installed is about $ 4,000 the way im going is about the same but you get more functions and better sound from the aftermarket unit. from what i have heard it is hard to wire amps into to the factory unit plus it isn't the cleanest sound.

nothing against other ways to do it, but this is my plan. I'll keep you posted. The radio wont go in for a couple months.
