Problems - "All Sales" fuel door

Just received an All Sales H2 fuel door from Race and Street inc. The problems started
immediately as I tried to fit the H2's plastic fuel housing onto the All Sales door assembly. This design attempts to secure the door to the plastic housing by catching the thin edge of the housing with a number of counter sunk screws, a dumb idea at best. After closely analyzing the design it became obvious the problem was just plain bad engineering. To further aggravate the problem the fuel door stop bracket was improperly contoured to match the shape of the plastic housing not allowing it to fit as required. Also preventing the housing from fitting into the fuel door’s channel were two screws securing the fuel door tensioner, the screw heads were too tall and had to be ground down. After two hours of re-engineering, filing and the application of some GE Silicon glue to properly secure the fuel door to the plastic housing, it was mounted and now looks good and functions works well.

The problem with this product is not only poor engineering but poor execution. If the fuel door was installed as per the instructions it would have fallen off during installation or at best, after the first bump in the road.

If you are handy and don’t mind fixing other peoples blunders you can have a very nice looking fuel door for $89 or just skip it.
