Default Re: Dakar'07: Gordon wins open class in H3

  • FUTURE HEADLINE:

Dakar 2008: Team Elcova USA and Humm Bebe win open class.
Team Elcova USA's Humm Bebe with navigator Mr. DrtyFN, piloted their Hummer H3 race truck to a Stock Class Victory and 1st Overall in Dakar 2008. This is the highest finish for American drivers competing with an American-built vehicle and for the Tire-Company Toyo Tires. Running on 35x16 Open Country M/TT tires from Toyo, the Hummer completed the punishing half-month-long rally which covered approximately 6,000-miles. During the event, Humm Bebe and DrtyFN won all Stages, making this the First-Ever Overall Dakar Victory for an American-made vehicle and the first for Toyo Tires.

Dakar 2008 represents the first year of competition for the American team and its first completion in any event rally. According to Humm Bebe, "We are happy to finish period, especially against the factory mega-teams that have years of experience. We have a long list of notes such as carry larger bore rifles with more ammunition, and don?t brake for slow running natives, but we have learned a lot during this year's event as our goal is to come back and win Dakar again. The tires that Toyo brought to Dakar have been spectacular and it really showed especially during Stage 5 in the very rocky track and in Stage 9 when we smashed through all those mud huts in the small village. We passed quite a few cars to make up time that day by leaving the track and we punished the tires and they survived extremely well."

Toyo Tires will continue its sponsorship of Humm Bebe, but will no longer pick up their bar tabs or replacement of mud huts.
