As part of a six-year commitment to the American Red Cross, HUMMER and the GM Foundation will deliver 12 more HUMMER vehicles to Red Cross locations across the U.S. Red Cross chapters in Long Island, NY; San Francisco, Sacramento, Santa Ana, and Santa Clara, Calif.; Dallas; Houston; Tampa, Fla.; Winston-Salem, NC; Scott, La.; and Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. will receive a combination of H2 and H3 vehicles to strengthen their emergency readiness and disaster response capability.

HUMMER?s relationship with the American Red Cross began in 2004, with a commitment to provide the organization with 72 vehicles that includes a combination of H1, H2 and H3 models, as well as $100,000 each year from the GM Foundation.

Today, there are 19 HUMMER models in service with the Red Cross. These vehicles have been used in response to many disasters, including areas hit by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; flooding in Orange County, New York; and wildfires in California. The vehicles also support chapters in delivery of local programs and services.

"For more than 100 years, American Red Cross chapters have been at the frontline delivering aid and assistance to communities in times of crisis," said Martin Walsh, HUMMER General Manager "HUMMER and the GM Foundation are proud to support this mission with the purpose-built H2 and H3. The unparalleled capabilities of a HUMMER make them the ideal disaster response vehicle."

"We are grateful to HUMMER and the GM Foundation for their continued generosity and longstanding support," said Kathleen Loehr, interim senior vice president of Development for the American Red Cross. "Their donations of vehicles and financial assistance have helped enable our chapters to do extraordinary things in their communities every day."

To help make communication and navigation easier for Red Cross volunteers, each donated H2 and H3 will be equipped with complimentary OnStar services, including hands-free calling minutes and OnStar?s "Directions and Connections" plan. It provides drivers with driving directions, and help finding hotels, gas, and other destinations. It also includes air bag deployment notification to OnStar advisors, remote vehicle diagnostics, remote door unlock and other emergency help. The donated vehicles will also include GM?s Major Guard Protection extended service coverage.
