Is revving up engine to 3000 rpm while depressing brake pedal at same time bad?

Hi,
I'm a little concerned when my dealer checked up
the noise coming from the front of my H3.
In order to test out the noise, they would
press the gas pedal up to 3000 rpm while pressing on the brake pedal so the H3 won't
shoot forward. Is this bad for the engine/transmission?
