Automatic Lights

After 4 years my 06 H2 SUT is having it's second problem. Pretty good for a daily driver that gets driven hard. The first was a BCM failure during the first year and covered under warranty and now three years and 48,000 miles later, although minor, it's the automatic lights. I can turn them off manually with the switch, but it turns the Nav black during the day because the driving lights are on. I know I could set the Nav to white all the time, but I would like the automatic lights feature to work.
The head lights come on whether it's day or night. I cleaned the sensor up in the dash and it didn't help. Now that I'm out of warranty, I wonder how hard it would be to change the dash sensor myself. Anyone else have this problem?
