I have been pretty much sitting back and watching this thread but you know, I am so damn sick and tired of people not taking responsibility for their actions. Everyone blames everyone else for what they do and what happens to them. I will have to go back and watch the video again, been a while, but I certainly do not have any sympathy for her. If you can not give respect, you better not f***ing expect to get any from me and you sure the hell better give it to all law enforcement officers. I wasn't there so I can not say whether I would have tazed her or not, but if it was completely unjustified, there would be a huge uproar over this. At this point I have not seen the uproar. Anyone else?
Just my opinion

I remember when I forgot to discharge my Tazer (Normally through a piece of grounded metal to release the remainding spark.).
I forgot and I slipped it into my pocket.
It discharged through my right nut.
It felt so wrong. Yet so right.
P.S. This will be our next handshake DRTY.

How much time did the officer give her to comply? This was not a felon take down. this was not 911. It was a non-criminal traffic stop. Could the officer give her a little more "time" to comply before using this tactic?
I have been through the Verbal Judo class, which is the policy of many Police Departments, throughout the country . I heard no "ethical appeal" before using the tazer, which would have been appropriate, given it was only a traffic stop.
Again, this was not 911. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Sooo how long is the officer supposed to stand there while she's on the phone? How many times does he have to ask her to exit the vehicle? Should he have said "Ma'am, pleeeeease get out of the vehicle. Pretty please with sugar and spice and everything nice. ...C'mon, please please please please!!"?
Why should he have to resort to an "ethical appeal" to get her ass out of the car? Is that some kind of special way to ask degenerates to do something? Next thing you're going to say is that he didn't lay down a red carpet for her to stand on.

I have experience with the hand held- never zapped anyone though. The backside sounds good but I would probably tase the frontside if I could. I pity the fool.....
I also have a mace pen, and used to carry a little egg knife on my keychain, and have taken some Krav Maga classes...I'm not fawkin' around.

Wow. This got a little nasty. I didn't intend it to. I was not responding to the original post but rather to a post about volunteering information that there is a weapon in the car. Of course I would do the same but I can virtually guarantee that an officer's reaction to me would be very different than to the poster. You may think that I'm some bad ass black man with an attitude but I am not. I get racially profiled often and it's obvious. Pulled over for doing nothing wrong. Pulled over for false reasons. Pulled over after they clearly see my face. Bags searched "at random". Followed around stores by security and clerks. ID'd. It does pay to do what the officer directs.
However, the problem I have with this situation is that the offence was a simple traffic violation, not a bank hist or a murder. In most states, traffic infractions are a non-criminal offence (that is why most of your “rights” to due process are waived).
It is my current viewpoint that it should have been handled differently at first. Like using a flame thrower to kill a mouse...overkill.

Are you kidding me? If I said I had a weapon in the car, I'd be:
1. tased immediately
2. shot immediately
3. get the max fine even if the weapon was legal... and even if they already shot me to death.
I love the police but man, this is an unjust world.

It's obvious by your response that you already know that you are a bigot. You and Bill O'Reilly can blame your problems on Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or anyone that doesn't look and think like you, but that doesn't change anything. Your time has past, so you can eat ****, and die.

I need to leave my 2cents worth here. I am a deputy here in Oklahoma and I would articulate the use of the Taser in this particular case as completely justified. The driver was on the phone with an unknown person(s) telling them the officer had a gun and was going to shoot her. Is this her mother or is this a group of hoodlums that may be sitting just around the corner. At this point it is imperative that she become compliant and the situation brought to swift closure for all of their safety (officers' as well as the drivers'). The last thing the officer wants to do is to reach into the vehicle and remove the driver if he has access to a device such as the Taser. This leaves him open to being attacked by someone on the floor in the back. Bringing the driver to you by use of the Taser is much safer for both driver and officer. It takes out some of the unknown and allows the driver to understand the officer is serious and to hopefully enhance the drivers' ability to understand the gravity of their situation.
It is my opinion that the use of pepper spray here could back wash on the officer and actually impede their ability to control this situation. (We use pepper foam so we can control the back splash / wash of gases to us.)
Yes, Taser hurts like hell, but just for a moment. And yes, CS in the eyes hurts like hell, but just for a little while. Niether of them are permanent. (And yes, there are a few recorded instances of deaths surrounding the use of CS as well as Taser, but I have yet to see any proof of their being the direct cause of the victim's death.)
As an aside, the first CS (pepper) gases were in an alcohol base and guess what happened when a suspect who'd been doused in CS got Tasered?? Instant fireball... needless to say, the CS we use now is non-flammable...)
Humbly,
K

Dug,
I understand about the second zap... I'm not sure what I would have done. It's all about getting the job done safely and efficiently so YOU can go home to your family at the end of the day.
And, a gun's a gun... she'll do you just as fast as a guy...
