I just returned from a 4000 mile trip from Maine to Nashville Tenn. to Florida and back to Maine. I've never seen so many hummers on the road compared to Maine where there isnt many . Myself , wifey , and kids all waved to every hummer we saw. I bet we saw 50 to 60 h2's and not one waved back. I dont know what happened to the "Wave". Hell , here at home we wave to someone in a Datsun B210 just to be friendly.

Of the few, H2 drivers I see around, they must be pricks (except me). I get most of my waves from the local cops, others in town who recognize me by my vehicle, bikers (not the environmentally concious kinds), truckers, and other non-H2 4x4 drivers, and the guy who has an H1 across town.

But most of all, middle school aged boys at the local schools and on the school buses. Boy do they love seeing my ride.

I meet an H1 almost every morning on the way to work and the guy always waves. The pricks in the H2s never wave.

I do not know if it is just red neck or what but in Arkansas anything with big tires waves at each other. H2 owners will drive across a parking lot to say Hi to another H2. I guess I have it good hear in central AR. I went to a Kolh's this afternoon and was driving off and a lady, Her Mom, the ladies daughter, and the lady had her baby came running from there 03 H2 Maroon to say Hi to Me as I stopped at the little stop signs on the cross walk to the store. They wanted to see all the bling and remembered seeing Me at the state contest I won so I just told them hang on a minute and I'll pull in the empty spot and we just all talked up until the little girl not baby exactly had to go potty. well that broke up the visit and the lady told Me the business they owned just up the road and was going to tell her husband that She asked Me to come by and see Him so She could make a wish list of things she wanted. It was nice but, I have had the few bad times but are rare at least. so i guess i can report that there are areas where it is not so bad.

I get the opposite. Kids love my truck - I passed by a group of teenage stoners the other day who actually STOOD up and started cheering as I went by. That could be due to the drugs tho...

All the kids on my block are fascinated with my truck. Our 7 yr old neighbor has one of the larger remote control yellow H2s....when he's done playing with it, he parks it next to mine in the driveway.

Adults are the nasty ones. I wonder where they cross the line from enjoyment that such a cool vehicle exists to hatred and jealousy? Must be those liberal arts colleges.

My theory is that so many H2 owners are harrassed, that they have all become ingrained with the need to be defensive -- even against other H2 owners!

In 13 months of ownership, got waived TWICE, and flashed back
(high-beam! you perverts..)
ONCE.

I have given up.

I noticed the same thing this past weekend. I actually saw 3 other H2s and not one waved. I was really shocked. Never met or passed another Prowler owner who didn't act like he or she was kin, let alone wave.

So now that I am back home, after over 4000 miles from New York to Key West to Oak Ridge, TN and back home again, my count stays the same.

I am convinced that most H2 owners are snobs who think their poop don't stink.

Present company excepted.

Almost always get waves here and usually wave first...but understand if they can't wave in heavy traffic. It's not like you'd mistake the H2 for anything else! Well, maybe a Brinks truck in the dark.

It's the occasional female scream "I LOVE YOUR HUMMER!" that I haven't been able to get used to.

Actually received a wave when we stopped for lunch somewhere in Tennessee. After I blinked my lights several times and stuck my hand in front of the windshield did he wave. Almost looked annoyed!

You might have a point. . .Up here in the northeast, people tend to be pricks -- I think without even meaning to be. Having lived all over the country, I can vouch for the fact that people in the south and west are generally friendlier. In fact. . .here in the Boston area, when people wave at you it's normally with just one finger.

Here in Los Angeles, despite the crowding, people are aching to connect. They are also driven by the social norm to be cool. I have developed what I believe to be the quintessential wave for this part of the country.

When I see another Hummer (H anything) I ordinarily already have my left hand out the window. Upon approach, I extend the left index finger toward them, maintaining an angle just slightly below horizontal. This is similar to animals showing submission to a more dominant conspecific (a kind of “you da man” gesture). It gives acknowledgement, yet shows humility. So far, I haven't been fired on by the "pimp my ride" crowd. Additionally, if there is no acknowledgement from the other driver, the gesture is subtle enough so that I can act as though I was merely stretching my finger, thereby maintaining the cool factor. Very bad form in L.A. to say "Hi" first and not be acknowledged.

(Please don't take this too seriously.)

Depends what you classify as a wave. In CT and the most of the northeast, H2s are not a common truck -- not as much as Suburbans and Escalades. However, most H2 owners will wave to each other if their men. This wave possessing all five digits, moving from left to right. I've waved to women driving H2s only to receive a do-I-know-you look or no look because she's got a cell phone attached to the ear -- a very dangerous situation in the making.

However, the other type of wave that is very common at least in CT is one that contains the one digit, usually the thumb, in a pointed down motion.

A women, less restrained, gave my wife the other one-fingured wave when my wife was dropping off our kids to school. Upon my wife's way back from the school she encountered the same woman who had smashed the front of her car into the side of someonelse's vehicle. My wife naturally and kindly gave the woman a five-fingered wave as she passed the acccident, which the woman had clearly caused.

There are 5 digits per hand. Counting how many fingers I recieved this past month, I'd say I recieved a total of 4 waves.

On the serious side, whenever I see an H2 with 22" rims all blinged out, I get sick and embarrased to be even near it let alone wave at it.

I never get the wave (or headlight flash) first. Never. But I always get a wave or flash in return when I take the initiative....I'm making a point lately to be a little more friendly to other H2 owners. I'm hoping it will catch on.
