Thanks to the 75 -100 request I have gotten regarding the fuel door cover. Continue to Email me with your request if you have not done so already. I will have complete information soon on locking mechanism. The finish will be in two styles. Polished CHROME and a BRUSHED finish version. Please be patient and I will answer each one of your Emails.

Hey Harry,
your fuel door is certainly making the rounds. Are you going to sell direct now? Is your Marketing guy selling these on the side?
What's going on?

I would want my gas cap cover to lock, and to be black.
Snap-in design? Hmmm... may not be very secure.

Harry Leitner and I had a wonderful phone conversation today. Please refer to his post for all specifications and availability time frames. Where ever any of the information I provided is in conflict with his please except his as having the correct facts since he is the manufacturer. In closing I can tell you this is the finest fuel door cover that will be made for the H2 - from a looks, operation, installation and value Harry has hit a homerun!
Hats off to his company for taking the time to listen to H2 owners!
Regards, Hummer Man

The person selling the chorme gas door on ebay also has a black powder coated door available, it looks great. If you want something that locks, go with the locking stant gas cap and don't put that ugly lock on the outside of a nice smooth door. It just ruins the look and the cap serves the same purpose. I am sure you remember the old days when you had to use a key to get in your car, before keyless entries were standard features. Think about all those scratches around the key hole where you missed the first time or other keys on your key chain scratched the surface. Do you really want a bunch of scratches on your new chrome or black door. I went with the chrome and it is perfect.

What ever happened to this particular fuel door? So much controversy was raised over who would be selling the product and then Harry disappeared and never came back with an explanation of why not?
Does anyone have this door with the HUMMER logo?

Chrome plated finish and I'm there. This is the best cover yet. I guess it is worth waiting sometimes.
HummerMan, I guess it is safe to say that it is metal and not abs plastic? It looks awful "molded" like. Let us know the finish options.

Hello,
I was directed to this website thru an email from a customer inquiry. My name is Harry Leitner from AMP Research. Our company manufactures the fuel door pictured for the Hummer H2, as well as for the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mazda Miata, Ford Bullit Mustang, Excursion, Expedition, etc...We are the OEM supplier for our PATENTED fuel door to many of the OEM's (MAZDA, Ford, Dodge/ Mopar, Mercedes, etc).
I have looked at the Elcova site and found great information on everything Hummer owners are looking for, and great real life feedback. I do not own an H2 yet, but will purchase one in the next few weeks.
There are a few concerns I have regarding the post from Avalanche and HummerMan:
1) These pictures were taken from a confidential release to selected distributors/OEMS/ press agents.
2) I am not sure how they were posted, who posted them, or how they obtained them, but due to the nature of the internet, it is not a surprise to me.
3) AMP Research is not associated in any way with "Hummer Man" or "Avalanche", to the best of my knowledge. I am not aware of their real name, so I can't say for sure...
4) HummerMan has made significant claims regarding our future fuel door for the H2. None of them are accurate!
Please be very careful on who and what you believe on the internet. I do not want to say that "HummerMan" is dishonest, but in this instance, the information he has given, his claim that he will have them by mid March, his price and finish specifications are completely inaccurate/ false!
AMP Research prides itself in being a cutting edge design, engineering, and manufacturing facility that provides innovative solutions to the Aftermarket and OEM automotive industry. ALl our products are engineered to OEM specs and tested to OEM corrosion and durability standards. Our fuel door is patented (multiple times), and has been copied by numerous companies...many examples of fuel doors which infringe on our patent are found on this site, EBAY, and other locations. We have now put an effort in to stop this as many customers think their door is manufactured by us and their quality or engineering is significantly inferior!
I hope this explanation serves as valuable information. It is not intended to discredit any members of this forum. I sincerley like reading posts in various forums to learn more about specific products, especially Elcova.
Thank you again!
Sincerley,
Harry Leitner

Hello again,
I do not want to over post regarding this subject, but want to make everyone clear on what we plan to do regarding our Alloy Fuel Door for the H2:
1) Patent issues: Yes, we hold numerous patents on our Alloy Fuel Door design, the major one being US6352295. The Alloy Fuel Door on the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Dodge RAM, Mazda Miata/ M6, Chrysler PT Cruizer,Ford Bullit Mustang and F-Series trucks, Mercedes M-Class, Chevy Silverado/ Avalanche, and many others are all AMP Research produced products and the majority are OEM products supplied directly to the automotive factories. The Alloy Fuel doors you see on Ebay, including the ones for the H2, are all knock offs. There is one company who does not infringe on our patent that does make an H2 fuel door (fueldoors.com). The companies producing infringing profducts have been advised and are being halted from producing/ selling.
We are not trying to halt competition; however, the blatant copies out there are dificult to distinguish at first from our Alloy Fuel Door and we do not want cheap knock offs to be associated with AMP Research. We spend a considerable amount of time engineering and making sure our products pass all OEM quality standards, like corrosion and durability. I am sure that many H2 owners can attest that the other fuel doors that they have bought do not even come close.
2) The feedback I have received on this site has been very valuable...looks like we may have to offer black, either black chrome or powdercoat as an option.
3) The Hummer Logo was machined into the first prototypes since they were being sent straight to GM...unless we receive the license for the Hummer logo (which looks very promising), it will not be included in the production door. We may include "AMP Research" or leave it it blank...
4) Again, thanx for the input. I am not knowledgeable about what exactly the H2 owners want, but I am getting a better idea.
Thank you and regards,
Harry Leitner
P.S. Thank you to the owner of the site (Jason) for his email!

I still don't know why Harry claimed to be ONE & ONLY LEGAL gas door without making a product and nothing to sell, while so many others have been selling similar gas doors for months. Is Harry only refering to the HUMMER logo? or he was the only one bothered to apply for patents? No disrespect to Harry, cause he seems like a knowledgeable gentleman and professional; but it happens often, the copycat went to the patent office first, ended up closing down the original designer.

Seems like the gas door discussion on the one with the Hummer logo has died....Did Amp Research give up on it ?
