You do not have to put the ball back on. Trust me. No reception loss in the past year and my ball is long gone. Ask my wife.

So I cut 5" off today!
How the F do you get the ball off of the antenna? Do I have to put the ball back on it?[/quote]

The only reasons I can think of for the ball is aesthetics and safety. You just know some fool would use it to stab some store clerk. Just imagine the lawsuits.

Tim,
It sounds like you have decided which way to go and that was cutting your stock antenna. If you decide that for some reason it is not working let me know. I can get you one like mine or put you in contact with the folks and have them drop ship it to you. I think the cost was $44. Absolutely no troubles going thru car washes and no noticeable loss of reception.

Car washes?

Don't do that. Youre moarker lights are going to get blown off and/ or cracked and you will get leaks starting soon enough. besides, doesn't your ride deserve the hand washed/detailed attention?

You are absolutely right. Actually I've only ran thru 3 car wash places. Two are in Ca and they are all hand wash no swirling brushes or dangling rags just a couple of guys with wash mitts then the rinse cycle and on to the folks that do the drying.

Most of the time I do hand wash myself but I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Hi Everyone
I ordered My ant. from Clarence Monday and should be here anytime now. It looks and He said is very good quality. Can get it in black or polished like the one I'm getting. It is bigger around than factory just below roof top level. He will probably get onto Me as he has always taken good care of Me and I have many items from Him on My Babby and all have been quality as has been h2source products I have. I just wanted to say this to show people what kind of guy He is. I'm hoping to not make Him mad as I'm doing what He said not to do but, being treated well and fair by vendor like Jason, Clarence or John HGW should be made known. He told me I'll sell it to You for this (very good price shipped) and I asked could I tell guys on forum about it. He said do not push this I'm a member not just a vendor but, in turn he will turn around and price You like a member just like Jason does for us. He did not say it but, I feel does not like being in H2source territory as he supports Jason and this site as well as not step on toes. Sorry C if I'm wroung, You can email me and fuss. Please do not do it on here. We all buy different things at different places but, when a vendor works for Us to help I just feel like he should be commended, sorry if I'm out of bounds here on this. If they want to ask you privately You can tell them what you got it for is what he said. So if you want you can PM Me.

TAZ (Rick)

Just cut mine yesterday with dremel by approx 8" so it now sits slightly above the top of the front marker. Just slip the antenna with ball over an adjustable wrench, put tape on the ball side so it won;t fly, gave it one wack with a rubber mallet.

I did put the ball back, just used little bit of JB Weld mix and it is very tight now.

Reception is just about the same, may be the AM is not as good as before but since I only use XM & FM mostly, that AM part is not for sure.

In the winter months I usually run it through one of those quicky washes (Terrible Herbst Fubar) then finish it off at home in the garage. Never had a problem with lights, anntenna, sunroof, leaks, etc.

I've been meaning to ask, what got FUBAR'd back in 2000 or does your handle mean something else.

I think as is commonly know fubar stands for, F’d up beyond all recognition, someone already had that name when I registered for this site so I added 00.
The name and its meanings for me go back to my early years this pretty much summed up my life. I couldn’t tell if I was coming or going. Everyone I touched or knew personally had something dreadful happen to them, everything I got involved in or with seamed to get messed up seemingly by my mere presence.
I’ve always been involved with photography and I had gone to an event called a photo-day where I met some retired military guys. Par for the course of my life to that point I ended up tripping over a light stand, snagging a sync cord that was attached to someone’s camera and basically falling equipment and all into the lake where this group of military guys were taking pictures of some bikini clad lady. One of the military guys plucked me out of the water and set me on the bank laughing his ass off, as were a hundred other people that witnessed my act. In parting he simply said “man your fubar’d”. Long story short he ended up being a photography professor who took me under his wing and furthered my education in photography, and some life lessons along the way. We ended up being great buddies and while my clumsy misadventures ended long ago this military man and his buddies still to this day refer to me as fubar.

Sorry that was a bit long winded. I tried to keep it short.

Sorry to laugh at your expense but that is a great story. I figured it had to mean something since most people would not refer to themselves as FUBAR.

Didn't mean to pry and don't apologize for answering a question.
