Low Cost Rear Visibility
With a lot of new H3 owners posting, I thought I'd repost this economical low tech solution to H3's limited rear visibility. I've had one of these fresnel-type fisheye lenses (5x7) on the rear window for a few months and it's a great vision enhancement once you get used to it. I simply want to know if there's anything behind me and this lens shows me. It doesn't even use adhesive, it sticks on the glass via suction (mine shows no sign of slippage). The link below is just one source but is a little pricey. I found mine on eBay for $15.

Wordstew - Do you actually have one of these installed on your H3? And if so, does it work well?
I'm using a Hitchcam with 3.5" color monitor on my H3. It helps a lot. My wife's Jag has the beeping backup sensors and they are helpful too.
Haven't heard any H3 backing up crash stories on this forum for a couple of months, but I'm sure there's a few not yet reported.

I believe in the K.I.S.S. Principal. I've known several people with factory rear bumper sensors who've backed into things; a couple had $$$ damage. Maybe people have a natural inclination to ignore beepers and lights, maybe the sensors get confused; I dunno. I prefer to SEE if anything's back there. Why spend hundreds of $$ when a $15 lens WORKS.

Because the $15 lens makes you look really old, and gives the short school bus look to your hummer?

Not a problem...I AM really old. No one really notices the lens anyway; the swing-out stop sign on the A-pillar draws their attention away from it.

Re: Low Cost Rear Visibility
I agree with DWPC. I placed the lens in upper left corner of rear window to see around the tire. Works great!
I have not even considered a back-up camera since installing.
Best regards, Happy Jack
