RPS and my dads club were just up there a few weeks ago. Check out my dad's club site, here's some decent pics with an idea of what you'll be dealing with.
The second (I think) pic is my black YJ on 38's and beadlocks on it's nose. A few pics later, that's Gatekeeper. It's the first obsticle and probably the one you'll have the most trouble with. After that, there's ALOT of wheel'n even a Subaru can handle. Enjoy

Back on topic:
I think we're going to stick with the original plan and run Fordyce that weekend unless we can be convinced otherwise. Any of you guys interested in Fordyce? I know it does'nt have the Rubicon name, but let me tell you, if you have'nt run it, you need to. One helluva trail. In many aspects, better than Con. Kick it around...

I'll have an itinerary this week. Tentatively we're going to meet up at Loon Lake Friday at around 1:00pm and then wheel up to Spider Lake to camp that night. We'll get up Saturday morning to start the 'Con. Not sure if we'll run the whole trail.
Dennis,
I want you to go to your "special" corner and pray for some better language. And it's not *******s, it's rectums.
You didn't fire your secretary, did you?

Hello all! My first post here as well. I was lured by the prospect of you guys on the con and have always been intrigued as to how well Hummers will do up there. I appreciate your guys' acceptance of the valuable info offered earlier in this post and welcome you to join and participate in F.O.T.R.'s actions in preserving our beloved trail.
With all the formality crap outta the way I am gonna TRY and get some of my club (RPS) to hit the con that weekend, if not to help in any way we can then just to have a good time! Be prepared, the trail is MUCH more difficult than the section discussed here from Tahoe to Obvservation. To add to the self pimping pics Brandon and Steve and others put up....here are a few of my old rig and my new one (the build is starting all over again)
Good luck and be safe up there!
Keith

Also please guys, wear your seatbelt. We had a very unfortunate accident occure on the trail this past weekend. I have seen many people hurt, but never heard of a death on the rubicon.

EL DORADO COUNTY -- A 28-year-old Wilton man was killed early Saturday when he apparently lost control of his vehicle along rocky Rubicon Trail, an El Dorado County route popular among four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jim Faria said the accident occurred about 4:10 a.m. Saturday, just east of Loon Lake and Ice House Road.
Faria said the man, whose identity was withheld pending notification of family, was not wearing a seat belt when he was ejected from a Toyota pickup and the vehicle rolled over him.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as an Elk Grove man, 32, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, Faria said.

From a post by a local on a BB in Nor cal:
Just got back... saw no one on the trail but a couple people at little sluice. Then again we were there in the middle of the week.
Be sure to have the right sleeping bag/blankets.. it's in the mid/high 20s there now at night...
Also be aware there are Bears on the Con, and rumor is they were relocated from Yosemite, and are not terribly shy. Take apropriate precautions with food items etc.
Were expecting another beutiful weekend weather wise here in the Mountains, daytime temps should be in the 70's.

Glad to see cooler heads prevail!
Now the question is: are any of you against me removing some of the "worthless" posts on this thread.
There is some good info on here and it might be good to continue that conversation?
You comments and opinions are welcomed.

I would like to thank everyone that has contributed information, opinions, links and pictures to this topic. It's really nice to see that we can all actually get along.
I am talking with my buddies about when we will actually get up there, where we'll stay Friday and when we'll hit the trail Saturday. As soon as I've got the info I'll post it.
Looking forward to seeing everyone up there.

cool, my first post. First off, anyone CAN make the trail - but the trail starts further than you guys went, I can take my car to the look out
For more info on the trail check out
http://www.rivercityrockcrawlers.com...n/Rubicon.html
I'd love a hummer, he he
no seriously that is a lotta dough to go wheel with! There are a lot of other trails around to get your feet wet with. The rubicon has got to be the highest profile trail out there, so we would all appreciate it if you do go that you do NOT make any bypasses and leave the trail as it was before you were on it.
here are some pics from last weekend
http://www.rivercityrockcrawlers.com...Name=cleanup03
For a fun run I would suggest coming in from the other side and camping at wentworth springs (nice quiet campground) then you can go as far as you can from there. It's a great trail, if you guys do go I'd love to come and help/guide!
